To treat fullness and hardness in the epigastrium, enlarged like a plate, with edges resembling a rotating disk, caused by fluid retention, this condition is named Qi Fen (Qi Division).
Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 3 liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, processed with honey) Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed, boiled then dried and weighed) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, roots removed, each 2 liang) Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, 4 pieces, processed, peel and umbilicus removed) The above ingredients are crushed into a coarse powder. For each dose of 4 qian, add 1.5 sheng of water, 7 slices of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 0.7 sheng, strain, and take warm. If sweating occurs as if insects are crawling under the skin, the patient will be cured.

The yin organ belongs to the Liver channel and is connected to the Zongjin (tendons), nourished by the Stomach Yangming channel. Most people do not recognize it correctly, calling it "external kidney" (wai shen). This not only causes errors in name and meaning but also blurs the distinction among the five zang organs, so how can one fail to distinguish it? Although ancient formulas listed four types of hernias, they merely mentioned Chang Hong (Intestinal Hernia), Qi Hong (Qi Hernia), Shui Hong (Water Hernia), and Luan Hong (Testicular Hernia), without distinguishing their etiologies. For instance, Chang Hong (Intestinal Hernia) results from excessive sexual activity and deficiency-cold of the Yuan Zang (Primordial Organ), causing the mesentery of the intestine to relax and fail to retract, allowing the intestine to descend into the scrotum, moving up and down不定ly; this is classified as an neither-internal-nor-external cause. When a patient suffers from long-term worry and thought, combined with fear and anger, the pathogenic qi descends along with the organ's qi into the yin organ, causing swelling, urgency, and pain, named Qi Hong (Qi Hernia), which belongs to internal causes. When a patient sits for long periods in cold and damp environments, dampness invades downward, causing swelling of the yin organ, named Shui Hong (Water Hernia), which belongs to external causes. When a patient overexerts themselves or rides horses and carriages causing vibration, leading to testicular swelling, uneven size, or irregular movement, named Luan Hong (Testicular Hernia), this also belongs to neither-internal-nor-external causes. Some infants are born with this condition, which is a congenital disease. Luan Hong (Testicular Hernia) and Chang Hong (Intestinal Hernia) are difficult to treat; Qi Hong (Qi Hernia) and Shui Hong (Water Hernia) are easy to cure. Additionally, when Cold Han (Cold Hernia) sinks downward into the scrotum, it is named Hu Hong (Fox Hernia), which also belongs to hernia diseases. People therefore indiscriminately refer to all hernia diseases as "Shan Qi" (Hernia Qi), which is highly imprudent. In women, prolapse of the vaginal opening is also called a hernia disease; such confusion in names and meanings exists.
