*Gutoupi* (Cortex Lycii), *Xiangbaizhi* (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), *Chuan Shengma* (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), *Fangfeng* (Radix Saposhnikoviae), *Xixin* (Radix et Rhizoma Asari), *Chuanxiong* (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), *Huaihua* (Flos Sophorae), *Danggui* (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), *Ben* (Radix Ligustici Wallichii), *Gancao* (Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis) (equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. For each use, take approximately one "zi" (a traditional unit of measure for powder) to rub on the teeth; if the pain is severe, take two qian of the powder, add one dan and a half of water, half he of black beans, and three slices of fresh ginger, decoct until one dan of liquid remains, rinse the mouth when slightly warm, and spit it out after cooling; this yields remarkable effects. Alternatively, fumigating and rinsing with Jinfeicao San (Boil Grass Powder) is also good.

The tongue is the external orifice of the Heart, primarily responsible for tasting the five flavors, thereby nourishing the body, and relying on the Spleen to distribute body fluids to the five zang organs. Therefore, the primary meridian of the Heart connects to the root of the tongue; the collateral vessels of the Spleen connect to the sides of the tongue; the Liver meridian circulates through the genitalia and connects to the root of the tongue. If these three meridians are struck by Wind, Cold, or Dampness, it causes the tongue to curl and shrink, rendering speech impossible. If depressed by emotions such as worry, anger, thought, or fear, it causes the tongue to swell and become full, leading to breathing difficulties. Heat in the Heart causes cracks and sores to form on the tongue; congestion in the Liver causes bleeding like a gush; blockage in the Spleen results in a white coating like snow. Although these syndromes differ, each has its specific treatment formula.

Treats upward attack of deficiency-heat from the Heart and Spleen, causing sores on the tongue, stiffness of the tongue root, and swelling and pain on both sides of the cheeks.

Physicians of the world use this formula to disperse and treat wind-stroke and cold-injury, and adding Xingren and Wuweizi to treat cough is also effective; however, they only do not know that it treats tongue swelling and toothache. In the Xinwei year, a person suffered from tongue swelling as if blown up, completely blocking the oral cavity, unable to eat porridge or drink medicine, with critical heat symptoms. A large decoction was prepared, and while hot, the steam was fumigated using a paper cover, resulting in immediate recovery. Another woman suffered from toothache that did not heal with treatment, causing swelling of the entire cheek; she was also cured by fumigating and rinsing with this medicine. Thus, it is specially recorded.
