Treats conditions in the Chen-Xu years, where Taiyang governs the Heaven (Taiyang Si Tian) and Taiyin governs the Earth (Taiyin Zai Quan). Symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, Qi stagnation, abdominal fullness with dizziness and oppression, shortness of breath, flaccidity of the legs, dysentery with red and white discharge, sores and ulcers on the skin and interstices, developing into carbuncles and malignant sores.
Prescription: Bai Fuling (Poria), Mugua Gan (Dried Chaenomeles Fruit) (each 1 liang); Fuzi (Prepared, peeled, navel removed); Niuxi (Achyranthes Root, soaked in wine, each 3 qian); Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, cleaned of forked branches); Hezi (Chebula Fruit, prepared, pitted); Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried); Jiangjiang (Dried Ginger, prepared, each 0.5 liang).
The above are processed into a coarse powder. Each dose is 4 da qian, boiled in 1.5 cups of water until reduced to 0.7 cup, filtered, and taken before meals. In the Mao-You years, Yangming governs the Heaven and Shaoyin governs the Earth, affecting post-heaven constitution through qi transformation. During the First Qi phase, Taiyin Damp Earth adds to Jueyin Wind Wood; this is lower overcoming upper, causing the people to suffer from middle-jiao heat and distension, swelling of the face and eyes, excessive sleepiness, rhinorrhea or epistaxis, sneezing, yawning, vomiting, yellow-red urine, and in severe cases, strangury. During the Second Qi phase, Shaoyang Ministerial Fire adds to Shaoyin Sovereign Fire; this is the minister occupying the sovereign's position, causing the people to suffer from widespread epidemics and sudden death. During the Third Qi phase, Yangming Dry Metal adds to Shaoyang Ministerial Fire; dryness and heat combine, causing the people to suffer from alternating chills and fever. During the Fourth Qi phase, Taiyang Cold Water adds to Taiyin Damp Earth; this is lower earth overcoming upper water, causing the people to suffer from sudden collapse, tremors, delirium, shortness of breath, dry throat with desire to drink, heart pain, carbuncles and sores, cold malaria, bone flaccidity, and bloody stool. During the Fifth Qi phase, Jueyin Wind Wood adds to Yangming Dry Metal; the people's Qi and blood are harmonious. During the Final Qi phase, Shaoyin Sovereign Fire adds to Taiyang Cold Water; this is lower overcoming upper, causing the people to suffer from warm diseases. The treatment method should employ salty-cold herbs to suppress fire, and pungent-sweet herbs to assist Metal, using diaphoresis, clearing heat, and dispersing methods to stabilize the governing Qi.
