Treats wind-damp-cold bi-syndrome (painful obstruction syndrome caused by wind, dampness, and cold pathogens), with generalized swelling and fullness, painful numbness and insensitivity, aversion to cold in diet, shivering chills, phlegm-fullness in the chest, and stuffiness below the heart. (Formula see Wind-Stroke Section)
Joint pain, inability to flex or extend, emaciated body, swelling feeling as if detached, pain feeling as if being pulled or wrenched, pathogenic factors flowing into the bone joints, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, dizziness, and a sensation of nausea wanting to vomit are all caused by the struggle among wind, dampness, and cold. Pain feeling as if being pulled or wrenched indicates excess cold; swelling and fullness feeling as if detached indicates excess dampness; yellow sweat exuding from the joints indicates excess wind. According to *Zhubing Yuanhou Lun* (Source Book of All Pathologies), drinking while exposed to wind, or entering water while sweating, leads to this disease. Tracing its etiology, although it involves wind, dampness, and cold, the mention of drinking alcohol classifies it under "neither internal nor external causes" (Bu Nei Wai Yin). There are also those who suffer from this without drinking alcohol; one must investigate the cause and treat according to priority and severity. If left untreated for a long time, it causes dislocation of bone joints and transforms into epilepsy, which must not be ignored.
Treats various joint pains, emaciated body, swollen feet feeling as if detached, dizziness, shortness of breath, and a sensation of nausea wanting to vomit.
Guixin (Cinnamon Heart), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 4 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed, skin and bud removed, each 3 liang).
The above are ground into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 5 slices of ginger, decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strain, and take on an empty stomach. Another method includes Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
Treats joint pain, inability to flex or extend.
Wutou (Aconiti Radix, 5 pieces, chopped, decocted with 2 sheng of honey until 1 sheng remains, discard Wutou), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Huangqi (Astragali Radix).
The above are ground into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct until reduced to 0.7 zhan, strain, and add 1 he of the previously prepared honey decoction, take warm on an empty stomach. *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) contains old ginger, Guixin (Cinnamon Heart), and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus), but no Huangqi (Astragali Radix) or Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba); it treats cold-han (cold cramps), colicky abdominal pain, thief-wind invading the abdomen and attacking the five zang-organs, stiffness preventing turning or side-moving, periodic crying out, causing cold extremities.
