Treats heatstroke causing cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea. (Formula see section on Heatstroke/Shangshu.)
Treats heatstroke causing irritability, fever, and dry mouth. Administer when the decoction is extremely cold. (Formula see section on Yang Syndromes of Cold Damage.)
Treats Taiyang Zhongyue (Heatstroke affecting the Taiyang channel), characterized by a wiry, thin, knotted, and slow pulse; after urination, feeling chilly with goosebumps (Sha Ran Mao Song); opening the mouth to breathe and dryness of the anterior teeth. Why does one feel chilly? The Couli (pores and interstitial spaces) govern opening and closing. When cold, the skin tightens and Couli close; when hot, the skin relaxes and Couli open. Opening leads to a chilly sensation; closing leads to heat. (Formula see section on General Treatment of Cold Damage.)
Treats dampness invasion (Zhongshi), characterized by a deep and slightly slow pulse. Dampness tends to accumulate in the Spleen and flow into the joints. Dampness invasion often causes abdominal distension, fatigue, heaviness and irritability in the four limbs, or general body heaviness. Prolonged cases may lead to edema, wheezing, fullness, and unconsciousness. If complicated by Wind, symptoms include dizziness, vomiting, and retching. If complicated by Cold, symptoms include limb spasms, curling, and pain. Treatment should avoid vigorous sweating, moxibustion burning, or purgation; promoting diuresis is best. This formula primarily treats such conditions, as well as cases where both urine and stool are uncontrolled.
