This is the Vanguard Leading Troops Formula. It treats heat in the Heart and Lungs, or alternating chills and fever, dry mouth with a desire to drink water, whole-body pain, internal abdominal heat, and redness of the head and face.
Next, use Neituo San (Internal Support Powder), also known as the Main General of the Vanguard Troops Formula, which treats the same conditions. Additionally apply Fujiao Xi Tie (Corner-Supporting Wash and Paste). For cases that have already ulcerated, take more Jiawei Shiqi San (Modified Ten Miracles Powder). (The above two formulas are seen in the preceding text.)
Treats Kidney deficiency due to excessive sexual indulgence, combined with external invasion by Cold pathogenic factors, leading to carbuncles and swellings. Cool-natured preparations should not be used; this formula is suitable. (Formula see Department of Large Formulas, Deficiency and Damage section.)
Treats the same as above. Additionally wash with Congbai (Scallion White), Juye (Tangerine Leaf), Jiaoye (Pepper Leaf), and Zhu Ti Tang (Pig Trotter Decoction), and continue to apply Jin Si Gao (Golden Thread Plaster). (Formulas and methods are seen in the preceding text.)
Treats men and women who cough with dull pain in the chest and diaphragm, swelling and fullness in both legs, dry throat and mouth, restlessness and excessive thirst, frequent expectoration of turbid, foul-smelling saliva, dark yellow urine, and constipation. In Excess patterns, first administer Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Drink) for four doses; in Deficiency patterns, first administer Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) for four doses. Both are taken with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Zao (Jujube), and then this formula is taken. (These two formulas are seen in the Department of Large Formulas, Taiyang Disease Harmonizing Category and General Treatment Category.)
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, remove rhizome) Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus, remove heart) Da Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, soaked in wine) Gualou Ren (Trichosanthis Semen) Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, remove pith, stir-fry) Yiyiren (Coicis Semen, lightly stir-fry) Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex) Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (Cut into pieces). Each dose consists of four qian, decocted with one dan and a half of water and five slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Take warm at any time. If coughing without thirst, add Baiyaojian (Baiyaojian); if heat is severe, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
Treats Lung Abscess (Fei Yong), characterized by coughing and rapid breathing, restless sleep, and distension and fullness in the chest and heart.
Tiantingli (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii Semen, two liang and a half, stir-fried over paper until reddish) Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, stir-fry) Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix) Bei Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, stir-fry) Gancao Jie (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, joint part) Luoshen (likely refers to a specific preparation or typo for another herb, contextually treated as an ingredient) Kuandonghua (Farfarae Flos) Grind into powder. Each dose is two qian, taken with Dengxin Tang (Junci Medulla Decoction).
Treats Lung Abscess (Fei Yong) with pain throughout the chest and breasts, expectoration of pus and blood, and breath with a fishy odor.
Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) Kugeng (likely Platycodonis Radix, synonymous with Jiegeng in some contexts) Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) Duyu (Sanguisorbae Radix) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) Chishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex) Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, equal parts) Cut into pieces. One liang is decocted with one sheng and a half of water to obtain five he. Take warm, three times daily.
