Treats muscle stubborn numbness, as well as purple macules (Zidian) and vitiligo (Baidianfeng).
Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Manjingzi (Viticis Semen), Echinodermata (Hehe), Caocao (unknown herb, likely a typo or specific local name, kept as is), Weilingxian (Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma), Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, prepared with honey). The above herbs are ground into fine powder. Take two qian per dose, after meals, mixed with warm wine.
Treats dermatosis (Dianfeng). A poem states: "For both purple macules and vitiligo, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and Liuhuang (Sulfur) are most effective; mix evenly with Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi) and dip eggplant stalks to apply. Rubbing twice yields better results."
First, rub the affected area with a cloth until slightly damaged, then use an eggplant stalk dipped in the medicine to rub. Another theory says, for vitiligo use white eggplant stalks, and for purple macules use purple eggplant stalks.
Another prescription: Liuhuang (Sulfur) one liang, boiled in Rice Vinegar (Micu) for one day; Haipiaoxiao (Sepiae Endoconcha) two pieces. Grind both into powder. After bathing, rub the affected area hotly with fresh ginger dipped in the powder, and avoid wind for a short while.
Yet another prescription: One chicken egg, soaked in strong vinegar overnight. Pierce a small hole with a needle, drip out the melted albumen juice, add a small amount of Pishuang (Arsenic Trioxide) and mung bean powder, and mix evenly.
Yet another prescription: Xionghuang (Realgar), Liuhuang (Sulfur), Huangdan (Lead Monoxide), Mituoseng (Litharge), Da Nanting (Arisaematis Tuber, large variety) (equal parts).
Grind the above into powder. First rub the affected area with ginger juice, then use fresh ginger dipped in the powder to rub. The area will gradually turn black. Rub again the next day; when the blackness disperses, there will be no harm.
Moxibustion method: For vitiligo, moxa cones are applied to the depression in the middle joint of the left and right middle fingers, three doses. If not healed, repeat. For any warts, blemishes, and various nevi, simply place moxa cones on them and moxa.
The way to save the world has nothing more important than medicine; discussing the difficulty of medicine, treating women's diseases is particularly urgent. Why? Women's diseases are ten times harder to treat than men's. It is said that the Seven Syndromes, Eight Masses, Nine Pain syndromes, and Twelve Leukorrhea types, totaling thirty-six diseases, have names but lack detailed symptom descriptions. Tracing their principles, they are all blood disorders. They often arise from neglecting the regulation of meridians, improper care after childbirth, internal emotional disturbances (Seven Emotions), external contraction of Six Evils, imbalance of Yin and Yang, improper labor and rest, and consumption of raw and cold foods. This leads to the failure of Ying and Wei Qi to circulate, conflict between new and old metabolism, turbidity following the meridians, stagnation and condensation, forming masses (Zheng and Jia), flowing out foul substances, causing pain and becoming chronic ailments, resulting in various illnesses. The onset may be slight as an autumn hair, but the disease burden is heavier than a mountain. Thus, at age fourteen, Tian Gui arrives. 'Tian' refers to the descent of Heavenly True Qi, and 'Gui' refers to the Water of Ren and Gui, hence called Tian Gui, governed by the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). The Chong and Ren vessels are the sea of blood. Menstruation is the surplus of the meridians. Generally, women take blood as their foundation; the Heart generates blood, and the Liver moves blood. Ying and Wei circulate through the four limbs like an endless circle, irrigating the hundred vessels, and the remainder becomes menstruation, flowing according to time. If blood flows freely like water without awareness, menstruation ceases, yet the body remains robust and capable of conception. Conditions where flow is excessive and unceasing, delayed, or premature, irregular and varied, lead to illness. Before menstruation begins, one to two days prior, there is fullness and pain in the waist and abdomen, headache with fever, spasms and urgency in all joints, worse than severe illness. After this, deficiency heat arises, spontaneous sweating, combined with five-center heat, leading to deficiency consumptive disease. With little blood and dried fluids, dryness Qi attacks the Lung causing cough. Retained cold stagnates, blood and Qi struggle causing abdominal pain. Stagnant blood forms masses, alternating chills and fever indicating Zheng and Jia. Or wind-cold-dampness stagnates, menstrual blood transforms into water, flowing to the four limbs, called Blood Division. Spleen fails to control, blood and water combine, swelling muscles, called Deficiency Edema. Or Chong and Ren Qi deficiency, excessive intercourse, wind-cold-heat Qi enters the Bao Men (Uterine Gate), foul fluid and blood discharge together; cold causes more white discharge, heat causes more red discharge, imbalance of cold and heat causes half-red half-white leukorrhea. If Chong and Ren are damaged, the Sea of Blood is disturbed, Spleen is weak and Stomach deficient, unable to restrain, blood suddenly gushes down, called Bangzhong (Metrorrhagia) and Louxia (Metrorrhaxis). The five colors of discharge correspond to the Five Zang Organs; if all Zang are deficient, all five colors discharge, causing dizziness, irritability, nausea, palpitations, confusion, forgetfulness, mania, delirium, and urinary incontinence. All these are blood disorders. Those born into wealthy families, harboring love and hate, cause Qi reversal internally. When Qi stops for a breath, Blood also stops moving, causing chest and abdominal distension and pain. Dizziness, vomiting foul matter, exhaustion beyond bearing, food failing to nourish flesh, leading to severe illness. In treatment, regulating Qi is primary, regulating menstruation secondary; this can be established as a fixed method. After conception, one must strictly avoid areas where the Tai Shen (Fetal God) travels. As the classics state: Injury by knife damages the form; injury by mud blocks orifices; beating causes dark cyan discoloration; binding causes limb contracture, even maternal death, verified easily. Do not ignore this. Abortion (Ban Chan) is not like normal delivery. Normal delivery is like a ripe chestnut splitting open naturally, harming neither shell nor nut. Abortion is like cutting a new chestnut, breaking its skin and membrane to get the nut. Because the fetal organ is damaged and the umbilical cord severed before the fetus falls, it is due to incomplete gestation, mistaken medication, sudden injury by cold-evil or heat-toxin, heavy lifting, falls, violation of taboos, or deficiency and leakage of Chong and Ren vessels. Signs of life and death are observed similarly to normal delivery. Generally, abortion requires tenfold care. If external signs show panting, phlegm obstruction,恍惚 coma without speech, cessation of lochia, thirst, or transformation into spasm, there is no hope for survival. If lochia flows, coma occasionally clears, no panting, it is still treatable. Among commoners and village women, indulging desires, illicit births, or despising female infants, often using herbal poisons to abort, causing fright, worry, stagnant blood failing to descend, attacking the heart with confusion, panting, phlegm, and deficiency sweating, countless deaths occur. Listeners should take warning. Treaters must urgently rescue with detoxifying and blood-moving medicines, achieving two or three successes out of ten. Regarding normal delivery, in the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, absolutely avoid indulgent intercourse. In the ninth month, avoid alcohol, shouting, anger, and head washing, lest delivery be difficult. Ancient people compared parturient women to soldiers on the front line, which is indeed perilous. At the beginning of labor, first remove ordinary clothes, cover the stove opening with a basket to create warmth, facilitating delivery. Do not make noise; carefully select a skilled midwife and capable family members to support, preventing panic and fear in the mother. Only eat soft rice and porridge. If abdominal pain occurs, let her walk supported. Pain comes and goes, called 'Nong Tong' (playing with pain), do not immediately attempt water tests or probing. Let the mother sit or lie as she wishes, endure patiently. Or take parturition-promoting talismans/medicines, but do not sleep with bent waist. If lower back radiating pain occurs, eyes seeing fire colors, this indicates fetal rotation. Kidney connects to waist, uterus connects to kidney, adhering to the spine. Pulse becoming very wiry like urgent pearls is the sign. Have someone support her to walk slowly. If walking is difficult, stand leaning on objects, rest briefly, then walk again, until waist and abdomen pull together, frequent contractions, take parturition medicine, force walking. Contractions intensify, hard to stand or walk, recognize labor is imminent, then assume the birthing position. Do not be too early, fearing the fetus cannot turn in the womb, or amniotic fluid breaks prematurely, drying the birth canal, leading to dystocia. Ensure the mother conserves energy. If feeling hot and stifled internally, mix one spoonful of honey with fresh water and swallow. If heat persists, break and swallow one raw egg. Wait until the baby presses the birth gate, head and face aligned, then have someone hold the waist. The person holding the waist should not lean, so the baby follows natural principles and delivers easily. There are also lying-down deliveries; wait until settled, back flat on mat, body not curved, so the baby does not lose its path, ensuring no dystocia. During summer heat, reside in deep, quiet rooms, away from direct sunlight, open windows, store plenty of clean water to prevent blood晕 (syncope), blood stagnation, erratic bleeding, and deficiency heat. In late winter and early spring, when cold is severe, tightly seal the delivery room, block gaps, generate fire inside and out, keep warmth like spring, wear layered clothes, do not remove cotton, to avoid fetal cold and blood coagulation, preventing dystocia. After delivery, first drink a cup of child's urine, do not let her sleep immediately, sit with eyes closed, then after a while, help her to bed. Lie supine with knees bent, do not extend legs fully. Even if asleep, wake frequently. Keep wind out of the delivery room touching her skin to prevent other diseases. Moreover, do not rejoice at having a boy, fearing 'Red Sweat' syndrome; do not grieve over having a girl, fearing 'Stagnant Blood Attacking the Heart'. Frequently drink mugwort and vinegar decoctions, fumigate with vinegar smoke to prevent purple stagnation. Gradually advance small amounts of white porridge, do not overeat. If water breaks and delivery does not occur after a day, differentiate symptoms carefully. Heavy body, hot feeling with chills, black face, blue tongue, cold reverse tongue tip: Mother dies, child lives. Red face, blue tongue: Mother lives, child dies. Lips and mouth both blue, foaming at mouth: Both mother and child die. In such emergencies, rescue must be prudent. Inform the family beforehand. If placenta fails to descend, waiting too long causes maternal fatigue, and blood inflow expands the uterus, rushing up to chest and heart, causing panting and pain, leading to critical condition. Urgently cut the umbilical cord, tie it with a weight to prevent retraction. Tie carefully, then cut. Otherwise, the uterus may retract upwards covering the heart, causing death. Ensure fetal blood does not rush back into the uterus, then the placenta will shrink and descend naturally. Even if delayed for days, it harms no one. I have seen many cases; only wishing the mother peace ensures natural descent. Do not trust midwives blindly using manual methods, causing death. Postpartum wind-stroke, facial deviation, opisthotonos, tight and large six pulses. Excessive sweating, extreme deficiency generating wind, blue lips and cold flesh. Rigid and flaccid spasms, stiff neck and back, convulsions of hands and feet, teeth grinding. Frequent dizziness from blood deficiency, fainting, cold qi, blackening around mouth and nose, uncontrolled bleeding, deficiency heat arising, named Stomach Extinction and Lung Failure. Rapid breathing in throat, incessant panting, severe thirst, cessation of lochia, named Solitary Yang Extinct Yin. Forcing bed rest within 5-7 days, or excessive anger, sexual activity within a month, or indiscriminate acupuncture/moxibustion, causing dry eyes, locked jaw, muscle twitching, stiff spine, inability to speak, are all difficult to treat. Still require caution. Other than this, cold damage and miscellaneous diseases are same as men, assisted by blood-regulating medicines. In treatment, adjust according to judgment.
