[Deming Dan (Life-Taking Pill)]
Chapter 7 discusses: What is the cause of flaccid edema of the four limbs after childbirth? The answer is: After delivery, mothers typically consume Heishen San (Black Divine Powder) and Xiongtang (Cyperi Decoction) to expel blood stasis and generate new blood. If lochia (Elu) does not clear completely and stagnates in the uterine collaterals, it can cause various diseases. Mild cases present as distension, pain, cold, or heat; severe cases involve irregular pulses, where pathogenic factors flow along the meridians into the four limbs. Over time, this stagnation leads to tissue corruption resembling water retention, causing edema. If physicians fail to examine carefully and treat it as fluid retention disease, administering drugs such as Kansui Radix (Gansui) and Bigarvia Root (Daji) to drain water will further deplete the already deficient body, leading to many premature deaths. Simply taking Tiaojing San (Regulate Menstruation Powder) promotes blood circulation, resolves swelling, and ensures natural recovery. Heilong Dan (Black Dragon Pill) also treats postpartum edema caused by blood stasis; this must be known.
