Xingzi Tang (Apricot Kernel Decoction): Treats all types of cough, regardless of whether it is caused by external contraction of wind-cold, internal injury from cold and raw food, or accumulation of phlegm-fluid retention; all are treated.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) Fuling (Poria) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Guigui (Cinnamomi Cortex) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) (All in equal parts)
Crush the above herbs. For each dose, take four qian, add one dan and a half of water, five slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until seven tenths remain, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time. This medicine has many pungent and spicy flavors and its nature is slightly hot; therefore, it is suitable for cold cough, but not for hot cough. If the cause is indeed cold contraction, add a small amount of Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) with roots and joints removed to decoct.
Treats wind-stroke cough, body heat with sweating, aversion to wind, and floating pulse. For patients who have internal heat and cannot tolerate Xingzi Tang, this medicine is steady and appropriate.
