Take one sheng of salt, place it in a coarse porcelain bottle, and pack the mud stopper (bottle plug) tightly. First, burn with chaff fire around the bottle, gradually adding charcoal fire, until it is burned through to a red-hot state and the salt melts into a liquid like water. Then remove the outer shell, stir-fry over paper until oil exudes, ensuring the degree of rawness and doneness is moderate; if charred, the efficacy will be reduced, and if too raw, it will harm the human body. Pound the four ingredients evenly, mix with honey, and form pills the size of *Cibotii Rhizoma* (tree fern rhizome). Take three pills per dose, preferably taken on an empty stomach at dawn. For patients suffering from epidemic febrile diseases (Shi Qi), administer with fermented soybean juice (Chiji) and tea; for heart pain, administer with wine, which stops pain upon entry; for bloody dysentery, administer with rice drink, stopping immediately when watery dysentery first changes; for malaria, administer with tea; for bone-steaming consumption (Gu Zheng), administer with honey water. Do not be alarmed if vomiting or diarrhea occurs after taking the medicine; if excessive, stop it by administering Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian) juice. If the patient has developed drug resistance and the initial dose has no effect, take one or two more pills. Fasting is required for two to three days after administration. This medicine should be prepared in the twelfth lunar month, sealed tightly in a porcelain bottle to prevent gas leakage. One dose can save a hundred people. In remote roads or villages where other medicines are unavailable, this medicine alone can be equivalent to several liang of Rheum Palmatum (Dahuang) and Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao); it has been tested repeatedly with effective results. It is contraindicated for children and women.
To treat infant Tian Xiao (severe asthma): Use dried Tanchu seeds (Tian Zhu Zi) and winter plum blossoms (Lai Mei Hua), each 3 qian, and one water slug (Shui Yan You), all collected in advance. Decoct in water and take one dose; recovery follows immediately.
For all conditions suitable for inducing vomiting to expel phlegm-saliva, using Dai Gua Ti is most excellent. Chonglou (Chong Lou, Polygonati Reticulati Rhizoma) (commonly known as Jin Xian Diao Xia Ma. After harvesting, remove the outer black skin), crush with a stone, avoid contact with iron vessels, dry in the sun, grind into powder, and store in a porcelain bottle for future use. For Wind-Phlegm Knotting in the Chest, take 1 qian of the medicine, mix with Yin-Yang Water (water boiled and unboiled mixed), and take orally; recovery follows once phlegm is vomited. For Malaria caused by food stagnation, take 1 qian on an empty stomach before onset, mix with boiling water, and take orally. For Jin Kou Li (Jin Kou Dysentery, characterized by inability to eat due to dysentery), take 1 qian, mix with warm-cool water, and take orally; recovery follows immediately. Geng Sheng's Note: Chong Lou grows as a vine in fields and among mountain rocks. Its leaves resemble San Jiao Feng, are glossy, smooth, and yellowish-green. It flowers during Mang Zhong (Grain in Ear solar term), resembling Gu Jing Hua. Its medicinal potency is very strong; excessive ingestion causes continuous vomiting and diarrhea.
To treat asthma, this formula may only be used after three years. Lean pork meat 30 liang (cut into dice-sized cubes), Bai Xin (Realgar and Orpiment mixture) 1 liang ground into fine powder. Mix evenly with the meat, wrap in paper筋 (paper fibers) and yellow mud, and let dry. Burn over white charcoal fire in an uninhabited area until blue smoke ceases. Grind into fine powder, soak in soup, steam, mix evenly, and form pills the size of a mung bean. Take with tea soup before meals: adults take 20 pills, children take 4-5 pills, adjusting dosage according to deficiency or excess.
Formula for Wheezing and Phlegm Accumulation: Attacks occur whenever it rains. The patient cannot sit or lie down comfortably and loses appetite. This is caused by long-term accumulation of cold-phlegm in the lung orifices, triggered by yin qi. Use the following prescription: Jiangxi Dan Dou Chi (Steamed Fermented Soybean) 1 liang (steamed and pounded into paste), Arsenic Trioxide (Pi Shuang) powder 1 qian, Alum (Ku Fan) 3 qian. Form pills the size of mung beans. Take 7 pills with cold tea and cold water, or 9 pills for severe cases. Children take 5 pills. After taking the medicine, sleep with head elevated and supine; avoid hot foods, etc. The above two formulas are strictly contraindicated for those with weak constitutions.
