(Attached: Lung Abscess and Lung Withering)
Cough is categorized into five types: Wind-Cold (Wind-Cold), Phlegm-Fluid Retention (Phlegm-Fluid), Fire (Fire), Labor Cough (Labor Cough), and Lung Distension (Lung Distension). Spring onset is due to the ascending Qi of spring; use cooling herbs, such as Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) added with Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) and Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica). Summer onset is due to Fire Qi flaring upward; heavily use Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma). Autumn onset is due to Damp-Heat injuring the Lung. Winter onset is due to external Wind-Cold; after using dispersing herbs, use Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) to expel phlegm, ensuring recurrence does not happen. For Wind-Cold cough, move phlegm and open the interstices; use Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) added with Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) to expel phlegm-fluids and descend phlegm, adding herbs according to the syndrome. For Fire, clear the Metal (Lung), transform phlegm, and descend Fire. For Labor Cough, use Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) added with Zhuli (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia) and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice), focusing on nourishing Yin. Dry cough is difficult to treat; this is due to persistent Fire Stagnation, assisted by Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Generally, if there is phlegm, add phlegm-transforming herbs. Cough occurring mostly in the first half of the day belongs to Fire in the Stomach; use Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) to descend Stomach Fire. Afternoon cough should be treated with Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) and Wubeizi (Gallae Chinensis) to astringe and descend. Early morning (Wugeng) cough is mostly due to Food Stagnation in the Stomach; at this time, Fire Qi flows into the Lung; use Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) and Digupi (Lycii Cortex) to descend Lung Fire. Lung distension with cough, affecting either left or right side, preventing sleep, is caused by Phlegm obstructing Qi with Blood Stasis; nourish Blood to move Qi, descend Fire, use Qingpi (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium) with phlegm-transforming herbs; for Excess patterns, use Baijiezhi (Brassicae Semis Albus). Later stage, use Er Chen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) added with Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Qingpi (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium), and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice). When Blood obstruction causes cough, use Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) peeled and deseeded, and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) stir-fried with wine, made into pills with Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice). Treating cough often uses Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) because of its acrid-dispersing nature. When Phlegm moves due to Fire and rebels upward causing cough, first remove the root cause; this is a follow-up treatment. Treatment for Dysentery is similar. Labor Cough is essentially Fire Stagnation Cough; use Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus) to treat Lung Qi. Due to extreme Fire injury, it leads to stagnation, distension, and inability to sleep. Utilize its sour and bitter taste for its astringing and descending Fire effects; assist with Haishi (Pteropoditum) soaked in Tongbian (Child's Urine), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Banxiaqu (Pinelliae Fermentum), etc., mixed with Ginger and Honey, held in the mouth to dissolve. Must focus on nourishing Yin. Treat cough by moxibustion on Tiantu (CV22) and Feishu (BL13) acupoints to greatly drain Lung Qi. Feishu (BL13) is located 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra.
The Master said: Yin-type cough mostly belongs to Yin Deficiency; treat accordingly. Cough with Lung distension, obstruction, and inability to sleep is difficult to treat. Lung Withering focuses on nourishing Lung Qi. [Text gap] Acrid herbs disperse it; for Lung Deficiency, use Renshen Gao (Ginseng Paste) and Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla) as main treatments; for Yin insufficiency, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is essential, or Zhimu Fuling Tang (Anemarrhena and Poria Decoction) is excellent; for Yin Deficiency with Asthma, use Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) added with Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) in small amounts to descend Qi and nourish Yin; Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) must be soaked in wine and sun-dried. For Wet-Phlegm with Wind causing Asthma and Cough, do not use purely bitter-cold herbs to suppress it, such as Qianmin Tang (Thousand-Silk Decoction) or Zhuidan Wan (Phlegm-Descending Pill). Further use Zaorao (Sinapis Albi Semen), Luobozhong (Raphani Semen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Baiyaojian (Fermented Tea Brick), made into pills with Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice) to hold in the mouth. Wet-Phlegm with Wind, using Qianmin Tang (Thousand-Silk Decoction) and Zhuidan Wan (Phlegm-Descending Pill) is indeed rapid. Phlegm Accumulation Cough cannot be cured without Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) and Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus). People with Food Stagnation have irregular green-yellow facial complexion, with crab-claw-like lines on the face, alternating yellow and white. Rebellious Cough cannot be cured without Hafan (Concha Meretricis et Cyclinae), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), and Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus). For Dryness with Throat Dryness and Phlegm, do not use Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) or Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum); use Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus) and Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus); for those drinking water, do not use Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), fearing it will obstruct the chest and cause discomfort. Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) stops cough, clears Lung, nourishes Yin, and descends Fire. Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) drains Lung Qi; for Qi Deficiency with chronic cough, one or two doses can arrest it. For Alcohol-induced Cough, use Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) and Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), made into pills with Ginger and Honey, held in the mouth to rescue the Lung. For Food Stagnation and Phlegm causing Cough and Fever, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Nanting (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum) are Sovereign herbs; Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus) and Luobozhong (Raphani Semen) are Minister herbs; Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) and Shijian (Alkali) are Envoy herbs.
Dai Yun said: Wind-Cold presents with nasal congestion, heavy voice, and aversion to cold; Fire presents with audible phlegm but little sputum and red face; Labor presents with night sweats; [Text gap], often presenting with alternating chills and fever; Lung Distension presents with panting and fullness upon movement, urgent breathing, and heavy respiration; Phlegm presents with sound of phlegm during cough, stopping when phlegm is expelled. These five are the general cases. One must also clarify their validity.

Treatment for Lung Withering lies in nourishing Blood, nourishing Lung, nourishing Qi, and clearing Metal. I once treated a woman, over twenty years old, who had an opening between her chest and sternum, from which pus and blood coughed from the mouth emerged correspondingly. Using Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), formulas to tonify Qi and Blood, plus herbs to reduce fever and discharge pus, she recovered.
[Appendix] "Jinkui Fanglun" states: Heat in the Upper Jiao causes cough leading to Lung Withering. It arises from sweating, vomiting, Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst) with frequent urination, or constipation followed by harsh purgatives, causing severe loss of body fluids. Thus, the Cun Kou (Inch Pulse) is rapid, the person coughs, has turbid saliva and foam in the mouth; this is the disease of Lung Withering, characterized by a rapid and deficient pulse.

To contract the wound, decoct Huan Pi (Albiziae Cortex) and Bai Lian (Moutan Cortex? Note: Text says 'Huan Pi... Hehuan is Hibiscus bark', likely referring to Albiziae Cortex or similar astringent bark) and drink. Hehuan is Hibiscus bark, also called Yehe.
[Appendix] What is Lung Abscess? Dryness in the mouth, coughing causes hidden pain in the chest, pulse is slippery-rapid or rapid-solid; this is Lung Abscess.
