Qi deficiency, blood deficiency, blood heat, and metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding) have treatment methods described by Li Dongyuan, but he does not emphasize heat syndromes; his main focus is on cold syndromes. Students should reflect further on this. The *Classic of Internal Medicine* states: "Yin deficiency with pulsating Yang pulse is called metrorrhagia." From this statement, it can be understood. In acute cases, treat the branch symptoms first: use Bai Zhi Tang (Angelica Dahurica Decoction) to mix with Bai Cao Shuang (soot from burning various herbs). For severe cases, Zong Lu Pi Hui (ash of palm bark) is extremely effective. Subsequently, regulate the condition using Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Gan Cao (Licorice Root) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger). If caused by overexertion, use Shen (Ginseng) and other herbs that have lifting and tonifying properties; if caused by cold, use Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger); if caused by heat, use Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root). For excessive bleeding, administer a dose of Wu Ling Zhi Mo (Trogopterus Dung Powder) first, distinguishing between cold and heat syndromes. Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung) can both invigorate blood and stop bleeding. A woman with metrorrhagia was treated with Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica) and Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome), ground into powder in equal parts, and taken as pills. Another prescription uses Sheng Gou Tou Gu (raw dog skull bone) burned to ash while retaining its nature, taken with wine or added to decoctions. Yet another prescription uses half raw and half roasted Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung), ground into powder and taken with wine. For Qi deficiency and blood deficiency, Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) is used with added Ren Shen (Ginseng) and Huang Qi (Astragalus Root). Leukorrhea with continuous dripping (Lou Xia) results from heat combined with deficiency; Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) is used with added Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome). To treat metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) is modified with Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), and Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger). For metrorrhagia caused by blood heat, a large dose of Jie Du Tang (Detoxification Decoction) is used.

To treat metrorrhagia, Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) is used to mix with Cang Er Hui (ash of Xanthium Fruit). Metrorrhagia caused by great fright and terror often results from Qi disorder leading to downward collapse: Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome, stir-fried until black, 1 qian), Bai Shao Yao (White Peony Root, 1 qian, stir-fried), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, 0.5 qian), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmannia Root, 1 qian), Huang Qi (Astragalus Root, 0.5 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 1 qian), Di Yu (Sanguisorba Root, 0.5 qian), Pu Huang (Typha Pollen, 0.5 qian, stir-fried), Ren Shen (Ginseng, 0.5 qian), Sheng Ma (Cimicifuga Rhizome, 0.3 qian), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root, 1 qian); decoct and take orally. For severe cases, take 1 qian of Zong Mao Hui (ash of palm hair) mixed with water/decoction. For metrorrhagia with unceasing bleeding, drink half sheng (approx. 200ml) of juice from fresh Ji Gen (Thistle Root) to stop it. Another prescription: Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome) stir-fried until charred black, ground into powder (2 liang); Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), five pieces, burned to ash and ground into powder. Take 3 qian each time, delivered with Chen Mi Tang (aged rice soup), accompanied by Shi Shu li Dan Ju Fang Zhen Ling Dan (Ten-plus pills of Zhen Ling Dan from the Bureau of Medical Relief Formulas). Another prescription: Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) ground into powder, taken with wine quenched by a red-hot weight (cheng chui). Hematuria without obvious cause: take Long Gu (Fossilized Bones) powder, delivered with wine using a square-inch spoon (fang cun bi).
