Treatment for abdominal distension in *gan* disease (childhood malnutrition with accumulation): *Huhuanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian, to resolve fruit accumulation), *Awei* (Ferulae Resina, 1.5 qian, soaked in vinegar, to resolve meat accumulation), *Shenqu* (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 2 qian, to resolve food accumulation), fried *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma, 2 qian, to clear heat accumulation), *Shexiang* (Moschus, 4 grains). For *gan* mouth lesions: Use 5 doses of *Wugan Baotong Wan*, adding *Wuyi* (Euodiae Fructus, 2 qian), *Shijunzi* (Quisqualis Fructus), *Kuliegen* (Meliae Cortex Radicis) (each 3 qian). Grind together into powder, form pills with porridge paste, sized like hemp seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, administered with rice drink.
Another prescription: On the Dragon Boat Festival, collect the fat from the eyebrows of a toad (*Hamax*), mix with *Zhusha* (Cinnabar) and *Shexiang* (Moschus) powder, form pills sized like hemp seeds. Take one pill on an empty stomach with breast milk.
For *gan* diarrhea: Use *Chishizhi* (Halloysitum Rubrum) powder, mixed with rice drink, take half a qian.
For brain *gan* (head *gan*) with itchy eyebrows, hair forming tufts, yellow sallow complexion, and emaciation: Instill gallbladder juice from a crucian carp (*Jiyu*) into the nose. Effective within three to five days.
For *Zouma Gan* (rapidly progressing necrotizing stomatitis): Burn silkworm pupal skin (*Cantui Zhi*) until carbonized but retaining its nature, add a small amount of *Shexiang* (Moschus), grind into powder, mix with honey, and apply externally. Adding a small amount of *Kufan* (Alumen) is especially good.
For dental *gan*: *Gulong* (Draconis Os, 3 qian), *Qingfen* (Calomelas, 5 fen), *Tonglv* (Chrysocolla, 5 fen), *Shexiang* (Moschus, 1 zi), *Kufan* (Alumen, 2 qian). Grind finely and apply externally.
For dental *gan* with rotting inside the mouth and gums: *Qingfen* (Calomelas, 1 qian), *Kufan* (Alumen, 2 qian), *Baimo* (Platycladi Cacumen, 3 qian). First, clean the affected area thoroughly by wiping with water-soaked silk cloth, then sprinkle the dry powder onto the lesion.
A case: A fourteen-year-old son of a wealthy family had a yellow sallow complexion, strong appetite, easy hunger, refused to eat without meat, and suffered from diarrhea for one month. His pulse was large in both hands, yet he did not feel fatigued. Typically, damp-heat causes fatigue and poor appetite; here, he was emaciated but ate much, and was not thirsty. This indicated parasitic dysentery. Examination of stool confirmed roundworms (*Huichong*). I instructed him to use vermifuge drugs rather than digestive resolving drugs, and he recovered.
The following year, during the transition between spring and summer, he experienced diarrhea without abdominal pain and dry mouth. This was because last year only the worms were treated, not the *gan* heat. Thus, I prescribed a formula to clear *gan* heat. He took concentrated *Baizhu* decoction for three days, after which the diarrhea stopped by half. Seeing that he was very emaciated, I advised using *Baizhu* as the sovereign herb, *Shaoyao* (Paeoniae Radix Alba) as the minister herb, combined with *Chuanxiong* (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), *Chenpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), *Huanglian* (Coptidis Rhizoma), *Huhuanglian* (Scutellariae Barbatae Herba), and a small amount of *Lushen* (Aloe) to form pills. These were taken with *Baizhu* decoction. He was forbidden from eating meat and sweet foods. He would naturally recover after three years.
