Qian (3 years old): Panting and rapid breathing with a fine pulse. Eyes fixed upward (Daiyan). Signs of collapse have already appeared. No prescription available.
Ni (1 year old): Alternating chills and fever in infancy for over ten days. Swelling of limbs, abdominal distension, loose stools. Recently aggravated by panting and eyes fixed upward. This is the root germ of Jue (reversal) and Tuo (collapse) syndromes. This belongs to the exhaustion of the Taiyang channel. Caution is advised on Chen or Xu days. No prescription available.
Su (31 years old): Convulsions (Chou Yin), locked jaw, inability to speak. According to standard methods, this is untreatable. Tentatively prescribing Huangtu Tang (Yellow Earth Decoction).
Dig more than one chi deep into the ground, fetch newly drawn well water, stir until turbid and then clear, and drink frequently.
Hong (34 years old): Yin cold repelling Yang outward. The pulse is uniquely rapid and scattered. Intense heat in the chest and heart region, facial redness especially severe on the malar bones. Restlessness, thirst, dry retching, chest fullness. Desire to sleep only. The critical period arrives very quickly. Tentatively prescribing a formula based on "treating heat with heat" (Re Yin Re Yong). May it guide fire back to its origin, offering a slim hope of survival.
Shang Rougui (Cinnamon Twig, 5 fen), Paodan Chuan Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, 1 qian), Fuling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Dangan Jiang (Dried Ginger, 8 fen); Shu Banxia (Prepared Pinellia Rhizome, 1.5 qian), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 4 fen), Sheng Baishao (Raw White Peony Root, 1.5 qian).
Shao (58 years old): Yesterday suffered from Longbi (difficulty in urination), with a very urgent and distressing condition. Desire to urinate but unable to pass. Pulse resembles bird pecking (Que Zhuo). The anterior orifice's function of promoting water metabolism is governed by the Jueyin liver. Shaoyin kidney governs both urine and stool. This belongs to rebellious Qi of Liver and Kidney, with signs of Yin collapse already emerging. Within three days, symptoms such as cold extremities and blindness will certainly appear. Suspected to be an incurable disease. No prescription available.
Zou (71 years old): Pathogenic factors have been trapped inside for a long time. Epigastric obstruction preventing food intake. Intense heat in the chest and heart region. Eyes sensitive to light, preferring darkness. Subjective sensation of red light dazzling the eyes. Pulse feels fine and deep upon pressure. This is always due to pathogenic invasion, becoming increasingly entrenched and obstructed. Methods of clearing and dispersing pathogens have all failed. The condition is tricky. Tentatively prescribing a formula based on "treating heat with heat" (Re Yin Re Yong). Tonifying the interior to expel pathogens, guiding fire back to its origin, hoping for a one-in-a-hundred chance of success.
Renshen (Ginseng Root, 5 fen), Zhi Banxia (Processed Pinellia Rhizome, 1.5 qian), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 5 fen), Paoshu Chuan Fuzi (Roasted Prepared Aconite Root, 5 fen); Qupi Shanggui (Bark-free Cinnamon Bark, 5 fen), Dan Ganjiang (Mild Dried Ginger, 5 fen), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian).
Second prescription:
Renshen (Ginseng Root, 5 fen), Zhi Banxia (Processed Pinellia Rhizome, 1.5 qian), Qu Bai Guangpi (White-stripped Tangerine Peel, 1 qian), Paoshu Chuan Fuzi (Roasted Prepared Aconite Root, 5 fen); Qupi Shanggui (Bark-free Cinnamon Bark, 5 fen), Dan Ganjiang (Mild Dried Ginger, 5 fen), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian).
Shen (26 years old): Ten days postpartum. Yesterday administered formulas to nourish Yin and subdue Yang. Lower back pain and leukorrhea/dysuria slightly reduced. Redness on malar bones became more severe. Dry retching persists. Little sleep throughout the night. Right Chi pulse does not rise. Pulse form is uniquely rapid and scattered, rather than merely frequent. Like a lamp, when the oil is nearly exhausted, there is often danger of extinguishment. Treating this condition is very difficult. Tentatively adopting the method of guiding fire back to its origin, awaiting correction from experts.
Renshen (Decocted separately and added to the mixture, 5 fen), Zhi Dan Chuan Fuzi (Processed Mild Aconite Root, 5 fen), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 5 fen), Yuan Shudi (Original Prepared Rehmannia Root, 4 qian), Paojiang (Roasted Ginger, 4 fen), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Qupi Shanggui (Bark-free Cinnamon Bark, 3 fen).
