Treatment formula:
Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange), Ju He (Tangerine Seed), Shan Zhi (Gardenia Fruit, stir-fried), Shan Zha (Hawthorn Fruit), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, soaked in soup).
If dampness is predominant, add Li Zhi He (Lychee Seed). If there is blood stasis, add Tao Ren (Apricot Seed). If accompanied by deficiency, use Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) as the sovereign herb; this applies when palpation yields indeterminate sensations. Cold hernia causing cold, hard knots in the scrotum arises from cold-dampness. In winter cases, add Wu Zhu Yu, Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig), and Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger). Water hernia presents with swelling and pain in the kidney region, intermittent sweating from the yin area, and scrotal swelling resembling crystal, caused by dietary excess and drunkenness; add Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), Zhu Ling (Polyporus), and Fu Ling (Poria). Tendon hernia presents with swelling of the yin tibia or pain in the penis; extreme pain leads to itching, or inability to retract the penis, caused by sexual exhaustion; add stir-fried Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, and Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizome). Qi hernia extends upward to the kidney region and downward to the scrotum, triggered by crying, anger, or qi stagnation; add Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), and Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma). Fox hernia resembles a tile; it enters the lower abdomen when lying down and exits into the scrotum when standing or walking; add Qing Pi, Xiang Fu, and Cang Zhu. Scrotal hernia presents with large, hanging scrotal swelling, like a measuring cup or bucket, without itching or pain, caused by low-lying damp earth; add Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Ze Xie, Zhu Ling, and Cang Zhu.
This formula treats various hernias, harmonizes the Liver and Kidney, regulates qi, dissipates hernias, and addresses dampness.
Chai Hu, Gan Cao, Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Fu Ling, Bai Zhu, Ze Xie, Zhu Ling, Shan Zhi (stir-fried), Shan Zha, Li Zhi He.
All ingredients in equal parts, add three slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), decoct in water, taken on an empty stomach.
Another prescription: Wu Tou and Shan Zhi in equal parts, decoct in water and take. Indeterminate sensation upon palpation indicates deficiency; add Gui Zhi and Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice) to make pills. This is a drastic remedy.
