This condition is mostly due to weak qi, accompanied by fire and phlegm-dampness. It is suitable for using Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Bamboo Sap (Zhuli) and similar substances. One must absolutely not treat it as a wind syndrome nor use wind-dispelling herbs. Generally, it resembles epilepsy (Xian Bing), but is more severe and deficient than epilepsy, so treatment should include tonification. Guang An (Commentary): During attacks, the whole body trembles and shakes; this is caused by qi deficiency carrying phlegm-fire, just like fire burning and rotating. Fire can dry substances, leading to insufficiency of qi and fluids. People of the world do not understand this, mistakenly believing it to be wind and using wind-dispelling drugs. Wind can overcome dampness, which causes further damage to an already insufficient state.
The *Yukui Mi Yu* states: Do not treat wind, do not treat dryness. When you treat the fire, wind and dryness are resolved. Because fire is the root of wind and dryness, treating the fire effectively disperses wind and moistens dryness; what wind and dryness would there be? Therefore, this syndrome is suitable for tonifying qi and fluids while simultaneously dispersing phlegm-fire. Formulas such as Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Erchen Tang (Two Aged Things Decoction), Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen), Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia - note: text says Nanxing/Arisarum/Sauromatum contextually often implies Arisaema/Phellodendron combo here, specifically Tian Nansxing), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), and Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai) are often effective, followed by Anshen Wan (Calming Spirit Pill).
