(This formula is also known as Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction).) It treats Lung Abscess (a disease characterized by the formation of pus in the lungs), where Qi stagnates in the chest and heart, accompanied by coughing with pus and blood, irritability and oppression in the shoulders and back, dark yellow urine, frequent constipation or difficult defecation, and loss of appetite.
Ingredients: Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Tiandongtianmen Dong (Asparagi Radix), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zisu Ye (Perillae Folium), Chi Fuling (Poria with Red Core), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) (each 1 liang); Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Jili (Tribuli Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (each 1 qian); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 0.5 liang).
Add Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) and Yiyiren (Coicis Semen).
Grind the above ingredients into coarse powder. Add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct with water, and take warm.
Use for Lung Abscess presenting with fullness in the chest, chills with a rapid pulse, dry throat without thirst, occasional expectoration of turbid saliva with a foul odor, and long-term expectoration of pus resembling hard rice porridge.
Ingredients: Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) (0.5 liang), Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) (0.5 lang), Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (1 qian, oil removed).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. For robust individuals, administer five pills with gruel or drink; for frail individuals, administer three pills. If the pathology is above the diaphragm, it will be expelled via vomiting; if below the diaphragm, via purgation. If purgation is excessive and uncontrolled, consume three or four spoons of cold cooked rice to stop it. Use for Intestinal Abscess (a disease characterized by abscess formation in the intestines) presenting with high fever, slight sweating, shortness of breath, swelling and pain in the lower abdomen, dysuria resembling strangury, or difficult and painful defecation like knife-cutting pain, as well as pain in the back and lungs, presence of pus formed within the intestines, or passage of pus in stool.
Ingredients: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Tianguazi (Melonis Semen), Shetui (Ophichthidis Cutis Coriacea) (one chi long).
Grind the above ingredients into coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, add one and a half zhan of water, decoct until one zhan remains, strain, and take before meals. Expelling foul matter is considered an excellent effect.
Use for cases where pus has not yet formed in the intestines, but abdominal pain is unbearable.
Ingredients: Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Baijiangcao (Patriniae Herba), Tianguazi (Melonis Semen), Chishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (slightly stir-fried, each 3 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Decoct with water and take orally.

Ingredients: Chi Fuling (Poria with Red Core), Taoren (Persicae Semen), Tianguazi (Melonis Semen), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (slightly stir-fried), Chuan Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex).
