To treat epidemic qi so that people do not infect each other, and to dispel warm diseases and Shanghan (Cold Damage) with Tusu Wine. (*Tongsu Wen* states: A flat house is called Tusu. *Guangya* says: Tusu refers to a hut. However, Tusu is flat while huts are round, hence they are different; what people now build wooden pavilions under halls during cold months is of this type. Noble families line these pavilions with feather curtains and brocade drapes, gathering therein to ward off cold. Thus, the wine drunk at gatherings on the first day of the New Year to dispel warm pathogens is named Tusu.)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) (each 15 zhu), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (10 zhu), Wutou (Aconiti Radix), Baxia (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 6 zhu).
Crush the herbs, sew them into a cloth bag, and suspend it in a well until the mud on the morning of the last day of the twelfth lunar month. On the dawn of the first day of the New Year, take out the medicine and place it in wine. Drink facing the door from the east side of the Tusu wine. When drinking Tusu wine, start with the youngest; the amount is self-determined. If one person drinks, the whole family remains disease-free; if one household drinks, the entire village remains safe. After drinking the medicinal wine for three days, return the bag to the well. If consumed annually, generations will remain disease-free. Place medicinal bags in all wells inside and outside the home to dispel warm pathogenic qi. Avoid pork, raw green onions, plums, peaches, and sparrow meat.
Biwen Powder (Powder to Dispel Warmth)
Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Linglingxiang (Lingostri Fructus) (equal parts).
Grind into fine powder. For every 1.5 liang, mix with 4 liang of rice flour. Mix evenly and apply frequently to the body. If rice flour is unavailable, clam powder may be used. This method is suitable for stopping excessive sweating.
To enter households with warm diseases without infection, grind Xionghuang (Realgar) and use the sneezing method.
Grind bright Xionghuang (Realgar) with water, dip a brush thickly, and apply to the nasal cavities. This prevents epidemic qi from entering, even when sharing a bed with patients. Apply after washing the face at dawn (wugeng) and before going to bed. Households with warm epidemics naturally produce foul odors. Upon smelling such odor, immediately probe the nose with paper twists to induce sneezing, which is optimal. Otherwise, pathogenic qi enters the Shangyuan Palace (brain) and disseminates through the meridians, causing the disease. Applying Xionghuang prevents smelling the odor and dispels evil dreams, ensuring divine protection.
At cockcrow, visualize and silently recite the names of the Four Seas Deities thirty-seven times to dispel myriad evil spirits and prevent warm diseases.
Donghai Shen Aming (Deity of the East Sea, Aming), Nanhai Shen Zhurong (Deity of the South Sea, Zhurong), Xihai Shen Jucheng (Deity of the West Sea, Jucheng), Beihai Shen Yuqiang (Deity of the North Sea, Yuqiang).
Whenever entering a patient's room, visualize and silently recite three times; do not vocalize.
Transmitted by ancient sages, Qianfu San (Thousand Applications Powder) written by Xu Jishan dispels warm epidemics and malignant diseases, preventing mutual infection.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (one piece, sized 1 fen), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Maziren (Cannabis Semen), Baishi (Platycladi Semen) (each 1 fen).
Grind into fine powder, mix evenly with Baishi and Maziren. Take with wine using a "fangcun bi" measure. One day of medication ensures ten years of health; two days ensure twenty years; three days ensure thirty years. Adhering to the master's method guarantees efficacy. If taken for three days, take it preemptively in years with high epidemic incidence. If unable to drink alcohol, well water may be used. Avoid pork and raw vegetables.
Biwen Shagui Wan (Wormwood-Dispelling Warmth Ghost-Killing Pill), fumigates against evil qi of ghosts.
Xionghuang (Realgar), Cihuang (Orpiment) (each 2 liang), Yangjiao (Capris Cornu), Hutougu (Pantheris Os Cranium) (each 7 liang), Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi), Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum), Linglijiapi (Manis Squama), Chujī (Gallus gallus domesticus head? Note: Text says 'Chuji', likely referring to a specific part or bird, context implies animal product), Kongqing (Azurite) (1 liang, substitute with Shilv/Laundry Blue if unavailable), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Zhensha (Cinnabaris) (each 5 liang), Dongmen Shangjitou (Chicken head from the East Gate) (1 piece).
Grind into fine powder, bind with 20 liang of lard from the twelfth lunar month. Form pills the size of chicken eggs. Burn one pill at the doorstep on the first day of the New Year; men pass from the left, women from the right. Wear one pill on the arm to dispel myriad evils. When attending funerals alone, swallow one pill the size of a mung bean. On cloudy/foggy days, burn one pill before doors/windows; highly effective.
Wuchengzi Yinghuo Wan (Firefly Pill of Wuchengzi), primarily dispels disease-causing evil qi, ghosts, tigers, wild wolves, snakes, scorpions, bees, stinging insects, weapons, blades, thieves, and violent harm.
Former General of the Vanguard and Governor of Wuwei, Liu Zinan, received this prescription from Master Yin. In the 12th year of Yongping, during a battle against barbarians, his troops were scattered. Surrounded, arrows fell like rain but dropped to the ground before reaching Liu Zinan's horse. The enemy considered him a divine being and withdrew. Liu Zinan taught this formula to his sons and brothers who became generals; none were ever injured, and it was kept secret for generations. At the end of the Han Dynasty, the Green Ox Daoist obtained it and passed it to Huangfu Long of Anding, who passed it to Emperor Wu of Wei. Hence it is also known as Guanjun Wan (General Pill) or Wuwei Wan (Wuwei Pill). (Tested this method: in a family of over fifty infected, only four wearing it remained uninfected.)
Yinghuo (Lucifuga/Beetle?), Guijianyu (Ardisiae Caulis cum Folio - specifically the wing-like branches), Jili (Tribuli Fructus) (each 1 liang), Xionghuang (Realgar), Cihuang (Orpiment), Fanshi (Alumen) (each 2 liang), Yangjiao (Capris Cornu), Duanzaohui (Ash from forging furnace), Tiechuibing (Handle of iron hammer, charred where iron enters) (each 1.5 liang).
Grind into powder. Mix with egg yolk and one comb of a red rooster. Form pills the size of apricot kernels. Store five pills in a triangular crimson pouch. Wear on the left arm. If joining the army, tie to the waist and never leave it. If at home, hang above the door. Dispels thieves, robbers, and warm epidemics; spiritually efficacious.
The Biography of Liu Gen states: When the Prefect of Chuan arrived at his post, a major plague struck the people. More than half of the clerks died, and the Prefect's wife and son were ill. The Prefect asked Liu Gen for a method to eliminate the epidemic qi. Liu Gen said: In the Yin year, the leaking qi is in the Hai position. This year, the Tai Sui (Grand Duke Jupiter) is in Yin. In the Hai position of the administrative hall, dig a pit three chi deep and wide. Place three hu of sand in it, and pour three sheng of pure wine over it. The Prefect followed this advice. The sick recovered immediately, and the epidemic ceased. (This utilizes the Tai Sui Liuhe [Six Harmonies] position in the administrative hall.)
