Rash (Zhen) is caused by the external invasion of Wind pathogen (Feng Xie), while Smallpox (Dou Chuang) arises from the internal eruption of fetal toxin (Tai Du). When both conditions occur simultaneously, all Zang-Fu organs are affected. If these two mix together, with red halos appearing and smallpox becoming more severe, it is mistakenly believed that the smallpox eruptions are extremely dense and incurable. However, this is actually a case of Rash accompanying Smallpox. It should be treated with Renshen Qianghuo San (Ginseng and Notopterygium Decoction); upon administration, the rash toxin will resolve, and the momentum of the smallpox will recede. If there is a deficiency of Yuan Qi (Primal Qi) preventing scab formation, the urgent priority is to tonify the Spleen and Stomach.
Renshen Qianghuo San (Ginseng and Notopterygium Decoction): Treats epidemic smallpox and rashes, with the dual function of releasing the exterior (Fa Biao).
