Postpartum deficiency with cold invasion, caused by exposure to cold or consumption of cold drinks and food; the cold attacks downward causing lower abdominal pain; there are also cases of pain caused by blood stasis (blood clots); and cases of pain below the umbilicus due to postpartum blood deficiency. All these are treated with Modified Shenghua Decoction (Jiajian Shenghua Tang).
Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong, 1 qian) Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 3 qian) Prepared Zingiberis Rhizoma (Heijiang, 4 fen) Peach Kernel (Taoren, 10 grains)
For pain caused by blood stasis, administer Qianhu San (Peucedani Radix Powder) along with this formula; it also treats cold-induced pain. If there is no stasis, but only lower abdominal pain that is relieved slightly by pressure, it belongs to blood deficiency. Add Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudi, 3 qian), Peucedani Radix (Qianhu), and Cinnamomi Ramulus (Rougui), each 1 qian, ground into powder. This is named "Qianchao Hu San".
Rhyme: Postpartum deficiency suffers from cold invasion, cold attacking downward causes abdominal pain.
Treat with Modified Shenghua Decoction, containing Danggui, Taoren, Jiang, Caoshu, and Chuanxiong.
Cold pain in finger joints, continuous sweating on the head.

Rhyme: Head sweat unceasing, finger joint pain, arises from postpartum consumptive disease.
Renshen, Danshudou, Shengjiang, Danggui, Jiubai, mixed with porcine kidney soup for decoction.
After childbirth, all joints open, blood vessels disperse, qi is weak so blood stagnates in the meridians. If unresolved over days, it pulls on sinews and vessels, causing joint dysfunction. Thus, the waist and back cannot turn or bend, hands and feet cannot walk or move. There may be body heat and headache. If mistakenly treated as Taiyang syndrome (cold damage) with diaphoresis (sweating methods), it will cause sinew and vessel agitation, cold hands and feet, and various complications arise. It is suitable to consume Chen Tong San.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 1 qian) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) Astragali Membranacei Radix (Huangqi) Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Duhuo, each 8 fen) Cinnamomi Ramulus (Rougui, 8 fen) Taxilli Herba (Sangjisheng, 1 qian) Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 8 fen) Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus (Xiebai, 5 roots)
