高评事,中风稍缓,张令涌之;后服铁弹丸,在《普济》加减方中。或问张曰∶
君常笑人中风,服铁弹丸,今自用之,何也?张曰∶此收后之药也。今人用之于大势方来之时,

Mr. Sang Huimin suffered from wind disease, with a dark complexion, aversion to wind such that he dared not go out, incessant scratching, loss of eyebrows leading to leprosy-like sores, and had been treated by physicians for three years. One day, Dai Ren (Zhang Congzheng) arrived at Tangxi, and Mr. Sang came to seek treatment from him. Dai Ren said, "This is not leprosy." He then cited the *Suwen: Feng Lun* (Treatise on Wind in the Plain Questions): "The manifestations of Kidney Wind include excessive sweating, aversion to wind, back pain preventing upright standing, a dull complexion, and facial edema." Your current condition is Kidney Wind. It is advisable to first puncture the face to induce copious bleeding; the blood should appear ink-black. After three punctures, the blood color will change." Thus, needles were inserted, bleeding from the forehead down to the vertex of the skull, and indeed the blood was ink-black. All swollen areas were punctured, except for the region beside the lateral canthus (outer corner of the eye), as this area belongs to the Shaoyang channel, where blood is scant and Qi is abundant. Two days later, puncturing was performed again, and the blood turned purple. After another two days, further puncturing resulted in red blood. During the initial puncture, there was itching; upon the second puncture, the forehead felt painful; during the third puncture, the pain was unbearable, which occurred because the pathogenic factor was receding. After waiting more than twenty days, a light puncture was performed once more, after which the condition resolved. Each time, the blood on the face was washed away with ice water. Within ten days, the blackness faded; within one month, the face became slightly reddish; within three months, it turned red and white. However, without taking herbs to clear the root heat, the disease would recur. In the eastern region, no one else could cure this illness.
Dai Ren observed a man whose lower eyelids were swollen like a lying silkworm. Dai Ren said, "The area below the eyes is Yin; water also belongs to Yin. The Kidney governs water, hence the swelling appears below the eyes. This arises from engaging in sexual intercourse while fatigued and sweating; wind enters the skin and interstices. Upon encountering cold, it becomes closed, trapping the wind which cannot exit, and moves together with water, thus causing this illness. If sexual activity is not abstained from, death will ensue."
Magistrate Gao suffered from stroke (Zhongfeng), with symptoms slightly alleviated. Zhang Congzheng induced vomiting (Yong method); subsequently, he took Tie Dan Wan (Iron Pill), which is included in the modified prescriptions of the *Puji Fang*. Someone asked Zhang, "You often ridicule others for taking Tie Dan Wan when suffering from stroke, yet now you use it yourself. Why?" Zhang replied, "This is a medication for the consolidation phase (post-acute). People who use it when the pathogenic trend is just beginning to rise are like ants trying to shake a large tree; they fail to understand the proper sequence of treatment."
