In the sixth month of Wushen year, Commander Xu suffered from an ocular disorder. Two black and white opacities appeared under the upper eyelid, causing grittiness and difficulty opening the eyes. The eyes were constricted without pain. The Cun position of both wrists presented a fine and tight pulse, which became forceless and expansive upon heavy pressure. This indicates that the Foot-Taiyang Bladder channel was scorched by the Ministerial Fire of the Gate of Vitality (Mingmen), leading to counter-flow and resulting in Cold Water Opacity and Cold Membrane covering the pupil. Symptoms included yawning, propensity for sorrow, forgetfulness, sneezing, excessive discharge and tearing, spontaneous lacrimation, mottled red and white complexion, ability to eat but constipation, frequent urination, shortness of breath, and upward rebellious Qi causing wheezing.
