Treats the condition where "Re Qi" (pathogenic qi returning or counter-acting) attacks during winter when the Water of Foot-Taiyang Bladder and Water of Foot-Shaoyin Kidney are flourishing. Due to the principle that "the child can make the mother full" (excess in the offspring organ affects the parent, here implying complex water-fire interactions leading to excess), Hand-Taiyin Lung becomes excess and reversely overacts on Earth (Spleen/Stomach), causing Fire (Heart) and Wood (Liver) to be affected. Symptoms include blockage, pain, and distension in the lower back, chest, and diaphragm; frequent sneezing; salivation in the mouth; tearing from the eyes; continuous flow of turbid nasal discharge; or obstruction resembling flesh growth with loss of smell and taste; coughing with frothy sputum. Upper body heat feels like fire, while lower body cold feels like ice. Paroxysmal headaches, sensation of fire flowing in the eyes, blurred vision, deafness, and tinnitus. Extreme aversion to wind and cold in the head, mouth, and nose; preference for sunny and warm weather; restless sleep at night; frequent sensation of phlegm blocking the throat and diaphragm with obstructed breathing; loss of taste; contraction, urgency, and pain in both hypochondriac regions; loose teeth unable to chew; intermittent coldness in the umbilical/abdominal region, sacrum, and knees; coldness and excessive sweating in the anterior yin; stooping gait due to imbalance; difficulty in rising and lying down; numbness and wind-bi syndrome; frequent urination; shortness of breath and panting; weak respiration insufficient to sustain life; uncontrolled seminal emission or leukorrhea. In women: excessive white vaginal discharge, severe pain in the vagina radiating to the heart, dark complexion. In men: testicular pain radiating to the heart, abdominal pain, or ruddy complexion like ochre, reduced appetite, irregular bowel movements, vexation, cholera-like disorder, rebellious qi, tenesmus, inability to strain during defecation, borborygmus, tendon spasm below the knees, severe shoulder and back pain. These are all manifestations of Cold Water retaliating against Fire and Earth.
Gan Jiang (Paeoniae Radix Alba? No, Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum - Prepared Dried Ginger), Hei Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata - Prepared Child Root of Aconite) each 3 fen; Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Yu Li Ren (Prunus humilis Seed, ground separately) each 5 fen; Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed in boiling water and ground); Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) each 7 fen; Ben Cao (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each 8 fen; Dang Gui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, washed in wine) 6 fen; Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) each 1 qian; Bai Kui Hua (White Hibiscus Flower) 5 flowers (heart removed, cut into pieces).
Combine all above ingredients as one dose. Add 5 large bowls of water, decoct until 2 large bowls remain. Add Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) 1 qian, Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 5 fen, Dou Kou Ren (Cardamomi Fructus, roasted in flour paste, skin removed) 1 qian. Decoct together until 1 large bowl remains. Then add the following pre-soaked herbs: Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex, soaked in wine) 3 fen, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, soaked in wine) 3 fen, Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 3 fen, Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix, washed in wine) 3 fen. These four were pre-soaked in fresh water for one day. Additionally, mix Hua Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 2 fen, Chuan Xiong powder (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 3 fen, and Man Jing Zi (Vitice Fructus) 3 fen together for soaking. Combine these three with the main decoction (which has been boiled to one large bowl without straining). Add the liquid from the soaked herbs back into the main decoction. Re-boil together until one large bowl remains. Strain and take hot on an empty stomach. This formula is also effective for treating conditions such as biting cheeks, biting lips, and tongue root stiffness, with miraculous results. Avoid meat soup and meat consumption to prevent aiding pathogenic fire in the meridians. Generally, those with deficiency of cold qi in the Kidney origin and Bladder meridian are suitable for this prescription. Take every three to five days during the waxing and full moon phases. If the illness is urgent, do not restrict by time.
