The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Soak in decoction, form into cakes, then roll into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills each time, swallowed with warm water; or chew thoroughly and swallow with decoction.
Discussion on alcohol: Alcohol is extremely hot and toxic; its qi and flavor are both yang, belonging to formless substances. If it causes injury, one should employ dispersing methods to induce sweating, after which the disease will heal. This is the most excellent method. Secondly, promoting urination is preferable. These two methods eliminate dampness from above and below respectively; thus, how could there be an alcohol disease? Currently, those suffering from alcohol-related ailments often take "Jiu Zheng Wan," a formula of extreme heat, to purge downwards. Others use Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) for purgation. This causes the formless Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi) to suffer while wrongly attacking the formed Yin blood, which is a grave error. The nature of alcohol is extremely hot; having already damaged the Yuan Qi, further heavy purgation also damages Kidney Water and True Yin, as well as formed Yin blood, leaving both deficient. In such cases, Yin blood becomes increasingly deficient, True Water grows weaker, Yang-toxic heat flares up excessively, and Yin Fire increases. This is described as the extinction of Yuan Qi, where the Ten Spirits (Shen, Hun, Po, Yi, Zhi - spiritual aspects) lose their foundation. It shortens life; although death may not occur immediately, deficiency syndromes develop. *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states: "For wine jaundice, if purged, it will eventually turn into black jaundice." One must strictly avoid this prohibition. Instead, one should allow dampness to dissipate from above and below, using Ge Hua Jie Ying Tang (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Resolve Intoxication) as the primary treatment.
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (5 fen), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (remove rhizome), Zhuling (Polyporus), Bai Fuling (Poria Cocos), Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (each 1.5 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven) (stir-fried), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (each 2 qian), Lianhua Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (3 qian), Suosharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus), Baidoukou Ren (Cardamomi Albi Semen) (each 5 qian).
Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder and mix evenly. Take 3.7 qian each time, mixed with warm water. As long as a slight sweat is induced, the alcohol disease will be eliminated. This is a remedy of last resort; one cannot rely on it to drink daily. The medicinal properties are pungent and spicy. Taking it occasionally for alcohol intoxication does not damage Yuan Qi because it counteracts the effects of alcohol. However, frequent consumption will harm one's lifespan.
