In the winter of the Gui Mao year, at the residence of Bailu Pan, an old servant had a dusty complexion, loss of luster, and particularly weak spirit. He suffered from long-standing rectal prolapse which did not respond to medication, and subsequently developed dysentery with red and white pus, tenesmus, predominantly white discharge with little red, unbearable suffering, and sought treatment. I said: This is not due to consuming meat or rich foods, but likely due to excessive vegetable consumption or irregular diet, combined with cold weather and insufficient clothing, failing to withstand the cold, causing the intestinal lining to prolapse. This is caused by Cold; the True Qi fails to secure, and the physical form fails to retain, resulting in sliding loss of blood. This is Cold-induced sliding leakage and insecure Qi, leading to the downward prolapse of the physical form. One should use astringents to stop the sliding loss, employ slightly sour flavors to consolidate Qi and draw it upward, use major hot agents to dispel Cold and tonify Yang, and use Qi-tonifying herbs to raise Yang and benefit Qi.
