[Method 1] When muscle cramps (spasmodic contraction of muscles) persist, men should grasp the yin region with their hands; women should pull the breasts near the sides.
[Explanation] If cramps continue to occur, men should firmly hold the genital area with their hands, while women should pull the breasts, holding both sides of the breasts with both hands.
[Method 2] Lie supine, extend both legs and arms, place the heels outward facing each other, inhale through the nose, and practice qi regulation for seven breaths to the limit. This eliminates coldness in both knees, pain in the tibial bones, and muscle cramps.
[Explanation] Lie on your back, stretch both legs and arms, separate the heels outward so that the toes touch inward, inhale fresh air through the nose, and vigorously guide qi for seven breaths. It can treat cold-bi syndrome in both knees, pain in the lower leg bones, and muscle cramps.
[Method 3] Lie prone, look sideways, stand up the heels, extend the waist, and inhale through the nose. This removes muscle cramps.
[Explanation] Lie face down, turn the head to one side, stand on the toes with the heels lifted, extend the waist, and inhale through the nose. It can treat muscle cramps.
Summary:
Huo Luan (cholera-like syndrome characterized by sudden vomiting and diarrhea) in Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to diseases presenting with sudden vomiting and diarrhea, abdominal pain, and muscle cramps (colloquially known as "cramps," referring to spasmodic contraction and pain of the sinews in the four limbs). It includes what is modernly called "cholera" and "acute gastroenteritis," but it is not equivalent to the modern medical disease cholera. *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (General Treatise on the Causes and Symptoms of All Diseases), Volume 22, "Syndromes of Huo Luan Disease," states: "Imbalance of cold and heat, and irregular diet, cause the clear and turbid qi of yin and yang to interfere with each other, leading to disorder between the stomach and intestines, thus forming Huo Luan. The occurrence of muscle cramps in Huo Luan is due to cold qi entering the sinews." Thus, it can be seen that muscle cramps are mainly caused by cold qi invading the sinews. This section proposes three Dao Yin (qigong therapeutic exercises) methods for Huo Luan-induced cramps: first, men grasp the genitalia firmly, women pull the breasts on both sides; second, lie supine, extend the limbs, with heels outward and toes touching, practicing qi regulation for seven breaths; third, lie prone, turn the head, stand on the toes lifting the heels, extend the waist, and inhale. These methods are simple and easy to perform. In addition to treating cramps induced by Huo Luan, they can also prevent and treat general "cramp" conditions.
