The command of Jianshen corresponds to the Middle Yuan.
Jianshen refers to the seventh month. The Middle Yuan also corresponds to the Middle Dantian (Middle Elixir Field) in the human body.
The Sanjiao (Triple Burner) encompasses the Heart, Lungs, and Liver.
The Sanjiao here refers to the Heart, Lungs, and Liver. It is the residence governing breathing and panting. This falls under the jurisdiction of the Middle Dantian, hence it is called the "Fu of Life" (Sheng Zhi Fu). Body fluids descend and moisten to gather here.
Naturally, the Lingtai (Spirit Platform) houses the True Sovereign (Zhen Zai).
The Lingtai refers to the Heart organ among the Five Viscera. The True Spirit attaches itself there as its dwelling, thus it is said to "house the True Sovereign."
Through cultivation, one can verify lightness and peace in the present moment.
If one understands the movement of the True Spirit, then through present-moment cultivation, one verifies physical and mental lightness and peace, thereby forever free from worries and disasters.
Chonghe (Harmonious Qi) transports and nourishes the Lower Dantian.
The Lower Dantian refers to the Qihai (Sea of Qi) acupoint, located three cun below the umbilicus. Chonghe refers to the flourishing of a single Qi, where Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) mix, hence named Heqi (Harmonious Qi). This Qi circulates through the Five Viscera and four limbs, often gathering at the Lower Dantian. Therefore, it is called the Sea of Qi.
Transformation and refinement: the Dao is not mysterious.
If the mind acts with attachment and lust for sexual desire, the True Essence from the Upper Dantian descends to the Lower Dantian. It transforms the Harmonious Qi, which then changes. Consequently, damage occurs; is the Dao truly mysterious?
The two Qi interact and induce responses.
This refers to the mutual emotional resonance between men and women, leading to sexual intercourse (clouds and rain), all being natural inductions, eventually resulting in conception. Regarding the formation of True Yuan Essence, the transformation lies with those who cultivate life; they must guard carefully to seek methods of control. Thus, the *Tai Bai Zhen Jing* (True Scripture of White Tiger) states: "Retaining essence within the body generates the self; bestowing essence upon others generates offspring." Transferring this Yuan Qi to form that Yuan Qi; if the other takes form, this one suffers loss. From this, we know to be cautious.
Carefully trace the operation of Qi where Earth meets Heaven.
The Yin and Yang Qi of Heaven and Earth push against each other, generating change. Generally, Yin and Yang have principles of operation and convergence, speaking without words yet inspiring trust. Thus, it is said that Qi steams upward to become rain, and rain moistens downward to transform all things. By carefully deducing the convergence of Heaven and Earth's operations and the rotation of the sun and moon, one clarifies phenomena and penetrates the principle of selflessness.
The Upper Xuan connects secretly with the Lower Xuan.
The Upper Xuan refers to the Gate (orifices of entry and exit). The Lower Xuan refers to the Pass (key points). If the Upper Xuan does not cease, the desires below are difficult to eliminate. Hence, it is said that the upper and lower connect secretly.
Movement and stillness originate from the same affairs.
Movement and stillness, above and below, correspond and connect their Qi; thus, it is clarified through Zhongxuan (Heavy Mystery), discussing both heart-methods. For instance, when dragons roar, clouds rise; when tigers howl, wind arises. All follow their kind, each finding its place. Therefore, the Upper Xuan and Lower Xuan apply equal heart-methods to assist each other; the matters are identical.
Regulate the Upper Xuan to let it vanish.
Focus exclusively on gradually seeking vanishing. Laozi said: "A tree that fills arms' embrace grows from a tiny sprout; a nine-story terrace rises from piled earth." Thus, regulation is likewise. If cultivation reaches the state where Spirit and Qi harmonize and True Qi is complete, fetal breathing forms naturally; the mind ceases with breath, Qi arises with breath. Once worldly realms dissipate, all attachments end. The *Tai Xi Lun* (Discourse on Fetal Breathing) says: "Fetal breathing knots from Yuan Qi; Qi generates warmth from the nose, relying on exclusive dedication to vanishing." Thus knowing daily renewal, this is what is meant.
The Lower Xuan achieves the same merit from this point onward.
Laozi said: "Front and back follow each other."
