Treats bone-steaming consumptive fever; three doses are sufficient to eliminate it.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Wu Mei (Mume Fructus), Hu Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (equal parts).
For each dose, take four qian of the above herbs, add one pig gallbladder, one pig spinal cord, the white part of Chinese leek (Jiu Bai), and child's urine (Tong Bian). Decoct and administer.
Generally, for individuals under forty years of age suffering from consumptive weakness (Lao Qie), tonification should not be attempted initially; instead, first resolve the tidal fever, and the condition can be cured through regulation. This formula resolves tidal fever with miraculous efficacy. Beyond this formula, there is a technique called "Connecting the Heavenly Ladder" (Jie Tian Ti); it is advisable to use this formula first.
Di Gu Pi (Cortex Lycii), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Bo He Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Gan Cao Shao (Radix Glycyrrhizae prepared, one qian half), Wu Mei (Mume Fructus, seven fen half).
Decoct the above herbs in water three times, and take the combined decoction at once in the afternoon.
Treats kidney qi deficiency causing emaciation, night sweats (Qin Han), tidal fever, fever, simultaneous damage to the five zang organs, thinness and weakness, vexation, bone-steaming, flaccidity and weakness, and hematochezia/hematuria. It is also effective for treating kidney diabetes (Shen Xiao), diarrhea, and turbid urine with red or white discharge (Chi Bai Zhuo).
Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, stir-fried with ginger juice, four liang), Shan Zhu Yu (Corni Fructus, pitted, pure flesh, four liang), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, peeled), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, de-haired), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, woody core removed, three liang each), Huai Qing Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata steamed with wine, eight liang).
Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take eighty to ninety pills per dose, administered with plain warm water on an empty stomach.
If Zhi Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus) are added, one liang each, it is named Ba Wei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill), used to treat lower jiao deficiency cold.
Clears lung metal, nourishes kidney water, nourishes blood, and nourishes yin.
Tian Men Dong (Asparagi Radix, heart removed), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, heart removed), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) (both from Huaiqing, two liang each; the four ingredients are boiled into a paste, dried, and pure powder obtained, totaling four liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix, rhizome removed, one liang).
Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take eighty to ninety pills per dose, administered with plain warm water on an empty stomach. According to ancient formulas, the four ingredients were boiled in wine, pounded into a paste, and mixed with ginseng powder to form pills; honey was not used because dregs would obstruct the chest and diaphragm, and those with weak stomachs and phlegm-fire would experience fullness and stuffiness if used in large quantities. The current method is very effective. Alternatively, adding Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), and Gou Qi Zi (Lycii Fructus), one liang each, and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), five qian, is especially excellent.
Treats kidney deficiency causing nocturnal sweating (Dao Han) and lower back pain.
Qiu Shi (Natrii Urinis Depuratum, preferably refined with child's urine), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, select high-quality white and solid pieces, peel skin first, soak in human milk for three days), Qian Shi (Euryales Semen, shell removed), Lian Rou (Nelumbinis Plumula, heart removed, two liang each).
Grind the above herbs into powder. Cook twelve liang of red dates, remove skins and pits, pound into a paste, and mix with the herb powder to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take eighty to ninety pills per dose, administered with wine on an empty stomach. Another formula contains Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen), and Xiao Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus), one liang each, named Qi Jing Wan (Seven-Essence Pill), treating the same symptoms as above.
