To treat women with amenorrhea or abdominal pain around the umbilicus caused by blood stasis and clots, this prescription is highly effective.
Ru Xiang (Frankincense), Mo Yao (Myrrh), Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood), Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Wood), Ding Xiang (Clove) (each 3 qian); She Xiang (Musk) (1 qian): The above six herbs are each separately ground into fine powder.
Qing Yan (Green Salt), Shi Yan (Rock Salt), Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung), Liang Tou Jian (Rhizoma Bistortae) (each 6 qian): The above four herbs are collectively ground into fine powder.
Mix the aforementioned powders evenly. For external use, place a small amount of She Xiang (Musk) inside the woman's umbilicus. Next, shape flour into strips one cun square, encircle the umbilicus with them, and fill the enclosed space with the mixed herbal powder until full. Cover with a piece of Huai Pi (Sophora Root Bark) one cun square, drill three holes in the bark, and apply moxibustion using large moxa cones. Menstruation will then flow freely, and blood clots will dissipate. Repeated use yields miraculous results.
Hong Hua Dang Gui Wan (Safflower and Angelica Pill): Treats depletion of the blood organs in women, irregular menstruation, intermittent cessation of menses, accumulation of stasis forming clots, stabbing pain in the waist and abdomen, and emaciation of the limbs.
Ma Bian Cao (Verbena Officinalis Herb) (half jin), Liu Ji Nu (Herba Siegesbeckiae) (half jin): These two herbs are decocted together to make a paste for pill-making.
Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (3 liang, washed with wine), Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root) (deprived of radicle, washed with wine), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Xiang Fu (Cyperus Rhizome) (stir-fried with vinegar), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex) (deprived of wood core), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (each 1.5 liang), Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) (each 0.75 liang), Guan Gui (Cinnamon Twig) (0.6 liang), Zi Wei (Catalpa Flower), Su Mu (Sappan Wood) (each 3 liang), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange Fruit) (stir-fried, 1 liang).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Use the previously prepared paste mixed with a small amount of glutinous rice flour as a binder to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take 70–80 pills per dose, on an empty stomach, delivered with strong decoction of Hong Hua (Safflower) wine.
Treats women suffering from qi and blood deficiency due to overwork, disharmony of yin and yang, alternating chills and fever, heart and abdominal pain, as well as various deficiencies and damages before and after childbirth. This formula is suitable for all such conditions.
Xiang Fu Zi (Cyperus Rhizome) (1 jin, processed in four ways: soaked in vinegar, wine, children's urine, and salt water for three days each, then stir-fried dry), Yi Mu Cao (Leonurus Herba) (harvested on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month is best; avoid iron contact; purified and ground into half jin of powder), Bai Shao (White Peony Root) (peeled, 3 liang), Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome) (stir-fried, 2 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) (deprived of radicle, 2 liang), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root) (not exposed to fire), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (roasted, each 1 liang).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like sophora seeds. Take 60–70 pills per dose, gradually increasing to 80–90 pills. Take on an empty stomach with millet soup or wine as desired. According to this prescription, regulating the spleen and stomach and tonifying deficiencies is extremely effective.
