金补水果妙
Nourishing the Spleen and tonifying the Kidney is most exquisite, especially suitable for the elderly to take regularly. It is effective for both Spleen diarrhea (Pi Xie) and Kidney diarrhea (Shen Xie).
Chinese Yam (Stir-fried with ginger juice), Poria (Peeled), Fennel Seed, Coix Seed (Stir-fried), Lotus Seed (Peeled and heart removed), Amomum Fruit (Stir-fried), Mass of Medicated Leaven (Half a jin), Licorice Root (Half a jin; the latter two are stir-fried together for one shichen, ensuring they do not burn).
Grind the above herbs into powder. Take one calf from a yellow cow (under one jin is preferred), decoct it into a paste. Add four liang of glutinous rice flour, mix into a hard paste consistency, and form pills the size of a bullet. Dosage: Adults take two pills, children take one pill. When hungry, drink soup, chew the pills, and swallow.
Note: This formula contains key herbs for the Spleen and Kidney; its efficacy is profound and cannot be fully described.
(Also known as "One-Catty Gold" or "Small Life-Extender")
A formula to fill essence, tonify the Kidney, darken grey hair, blacken beard, prolong life, and extend longevity. Daoists use this for dietary therapy.
Myrobalan (Five qian), Agarwood (Two qian), Aniseed (Three qian), Sophora Seed (Three liang), Acanthopanacis Cortex (Three liang), Goji Berry (Three liang), Psoralea Fruit (Stir-fried on a new tile, Three liang), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Three liang).
The above herbs total one jin. Add one jin of Walnut Meat and half a jin of white sugar. Grind all into powder. Use one jin of refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Dosage: Two pills per time, taken empty stomach, dissolved in salt water. Note: This formula primarily tonifies the Kidney. Although it may not immediately blacken hair and beard, it makes them lustrous and non-dry, which is particularly excellent. People in the high and dry regions of the Northwest are suitable for regular use.
The premier formula for clearing the upper and tonifying the lower. It is inexpensive yet highly efficacious; regular use yields miraculous results. On the Winter Solstice, harvest Ilex cornuta berries (Dongqing Zi) in any quantity, and dry them in the shade.
Mix thoroughly with honey wine. Place in a box for one day and night. Rub off the skin using a coarse cloth bag. Dry in the sun, grind into powder, and store in a new clay jar, sealed tightly. On the Summer Solstice, harvest dozens of jin of Eclipta Prostrata (Hanliancao), crush to extract natural juice, and decoct into a paste. Mix this paste with the previously prepared herb powder. Form pills the size of a Chinese parasol tree seed (Wutongzi). Dosage: One hundred pills per time, taken before bed with wine. Its efficacy is immense. Initial use relieves the elderly of nocturia within days. Within ten days, physical strength doubles. It can turn white hair and beard black, regulate the waist and knees, strengthen sinews and bones, secure Yin essence, and prevent leakage. It is especially miraculous for those with excessive sexual activity or phlegm-fire constitutions.
Nourishes Yin, descends fire, clears the Lungs, tonifies the Kidneys, and replenishes primal Yang. In the past, a prince took only this paste and fathered thirty-two sons, living to be one hundred years old. He walked lightly, his hearing and vision were sharp, resembling a youth.
Select fifteen jin of Asparagus Root (Tianmendong), discarding withered or damaged parts. Moisten with warm water until soft, peel, remove hearts, wash clean, and dry. Take ten jin of the clean flesh and crush it. For every jin of flesh, add five bowls of water, totaling fifty bowls.
Decoct in a copper pot over slow heat until two-thirds of the liquid remains. Strain through cloth to extract the juice. Crush the dregs again, add thirty bowls of water, decoct until reduced by about half, then strain through cloth again, discarding the dregs. Combine the juices from both extractions. Decoct over alternating mild and strong fire until the mixture is thick enough that a drop does not spread when placed on a cool surface, resembling a thin paste. Remove from heat and let stand for three days to dissipate the "fire toxicity." Store in a porcelain jar, sealed tight. Daily, on an empty stomach during noon and afternoon, scoop half a cup of the paste into a bowl, dilute with boiling plain water, and take orally. In winter, take with wine. If there is phlegm, take with light ginger water. Generally, this paste is best suited for those with excessive sexual indulgence; regular use is excellent. For heat in the Upper Jiao with phlegm, take an extra dose after meals. For heat in the Lower Jiao with red and scanty urination, take an extra dose on an empty stomach. Note: This formula targets the Lungs and Kidneys; clearing Metal and tonifying Water is indeed miraculous.
