Regarding spleen and stomach disorders, if treatment is erroneous or purgatives are misused, the condition may transmit to become interior cold. If exposed to seasonal cold again, it leads to cold limbs, severe heart and stomach cramping pain, and cold sweat. The *Ju Tong Lun* states: "When cold qi invades the five zang organs, rebellion and upward leakage occur, yin qi is exhausted, and yang qi has not entered, causing sudden death-like pain and unconsciousness. If qi returns, life is preserved." The six climatic factors can all cause disease, but cold toxicity is the most severe because yin governs destruction. The sages use pungent-hot herbs to disperse it and restore yang qi. Thus, it is said that when cold evil resides, pain ceases immediately upon receiving heat. This is what is meant.
