This is *Bieshi Huma* (Chinese Hemp Seed), specifically used to treat the "thirty-six winds" (a collective term for various wind-pathogen diseases). If there are purple spots within the skin, and itching caused by wind pathogens leads to severe bone degeneration (describing a critical condition), it is most effective when combined with herbs possessing detoxifying and cooling-blood properties, such as *Shengdi Huang* (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), *Lianqiao* (Forsythiae Fructus), *Danpi* (Moutan Cortex), and *Chishao* (Paeoniae Radix Rubra).
*Yama* (Flaxseed) has a sweet flavor and warm nature, is non-toxic, and enters the blood aspect of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. The Jueyin meridian stores blood and is considered the organ of wind and water. Severe sores and tinea are often caused by heat in the Jueyin blood. Since *Yama* is sweet and warm, it benefits the blood and promotes circulation; thus, the blood flows naturally, wind pathogens disperse, and it treats conditions like leprosy, scabies, leech-like sores, and tinea. When combined with *Jinyinhua* (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), *Lianqiao* (Forsythiae Fructus), *Shengdi Huang* (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), *Huangbai* (Phellodendri Cortex), *Bixie* (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), *Tufuling* (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma), *Heshouwu* (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), *Cangzhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma), *Mugua* (Chaenomelis Fructus), and *Yiyiren* (Coicis Semen), it treats excessive damp-heat causing pustular sores all over the body, acting miraculously on various malignant sores.
*Baiyouma* (White Oil Hemp): For oil extraction, white seeds are superior; for dietary use, black seeds are better. Raw usage has a cold nature, while cooked usage has a hot nature. White seeds treat lung qi, moistening the five zang organs; black seeds enter the Kidney meridian, moistening kidney dryness. It treats deficiency consumptive diseases with loose bowels, moves wind qi, unblocks blood qi, removes head wind, moistens skin, resolves heat toxins of the Sanjiao, treats all malignant sores, kills scabies and tinea parasites, lubricates hard feces in the anus, and when decocted into ointments, generates flesh and stops pain from carbuncles. If eaten raw, its nature is cold and it disturbs qi; if fried or refined for food, its heat is comparable to fire, so it should not be consumed long-term as it may consume muscle tissue. Just as overnight food must be reheated thoroughly before eating, hemp seeds require proper cooking.
This is *Dama Ren* (Cannabis Seed), born of Earth's qi, with a sweet and neutral flavor, non-toxic, and possessing the slipperiest nature. Sweetness tonifies the middle jiao, entering the Hand and Foot Yangming Stomach and Large Intestine meridians, and the Foot Taiyin Spleen meridian. It mainly treats constipation due to stomach heat, promoting slippery downward movement; breaks up accumulated blood and restores blood vessels, promotes urination, re-moistens the large intestine, benefits blood and yin, soothes the spleen, and moistens dryness. Therefore, Zhang Zhongjing uses it in *Pi Yue Wan* (Spleen Restriction Pill). However, excessive consumption damages blood vessels, causes leakage of essence and qi, leads to impotence, and women who consume too much may develop leukorrhea, because its slippery nature moves without staying put. For postpartum patients with excessive sweating and severe constipation, *Mazi Zhou* (Hemp Seed Porridge) is the safest remedy, suitable not only for postpartum women but also for elderly people with various deficiencies and wind-type constipation. Usage: Take two *he* (approx. 200ml) of *Dama Ren* (Cannabis Seed) and *Zisu Zi* (Perillae Fructus), wash clean, grind finely, add water to extract juice (one cup), divide into two doses, and cook into porridge to drink. *Mama Ren Zhou* (Hemp Seed Porridge) treats wind-water disease causing abdominal distension, heavy and painful waist and knees that cannot move. Usage: Take half a *sheng* (approx. 1 liter) of winter hemp seeds, grind, filter water to obtain juice, add two *he* of *Jingmi* (Oryza Sativa Germen), cook into thin porridge, add green onion, pepper, salt, and fermented soybeans (*Douchi*), and eat on an empty stomach. *Xia Ziyi Qiji Fang* records: "Intestinal Truncation Disease," where the rectum protrudes more than one cun, causing severe pain; if it dries, it falls off spontaneously, then grows back again. If the entire intestine protrudes, it is incurable. However, at the initial stage, sitting in a container filled with Sesame Oil allows absorption, and drinking several cups of Cannabis Seed juice will cure it.
*Huomazi* (Fire Hemp Seed): Its stems can serve as torch wicks, its bark can be woven into cloth, and its seeds are used medicinally. Processing requires precision. It benefits qi and tonifies the middle, induces labor and lactation, treats wind-stroke with sweating, cures stubborn skin numbness, moistens the large intestine, relieves constipation due to wind-heat, stops thirst, promotes urination, breaks up accumulated blood to restore vessels, facilitates normal delivery in cases of malpresentation, and eliminates residual postpartum ailments. Combined with *Changpu* (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and *Gui Bai* (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) into pills, taken for 100 days, one can see spirits; mixed with beans and hair, placed near a well with incantations, it wards off plague demons. It enters the Spleen and Large Intestine meridians, with functions specialized in benefiting yin and moistening dryness.
