Grind into fine powder, mix with water, and apply topically. If it dries, wash off the medicine with water and moisturize with Walnut Oil (Juglandis Semen Oil).
Take one pair of male and female crabs (total weight eight liang, approx. 300 grams; best collected after Frost Descent, tied together with their bellies facing each other), Hao Jing Mo (High-quality Beijing Ink Stick, one qian, ground to powder), She Xiang (Musk, three fen, approx. 1.1 grams), Sheng Qi (Raw Lacquer, one jin, approx. 500 grams, filtered to remove dregs). First, place the Beijing ink powder and musk into a porcelain bottle. Then, put the crabs inside. Next, pour the raw lacquer into the bottle and seal it tightly. Bury it deep in the soil of a place frequented by people, about one chi (approx. 33 cm) deep. After forty-nine days (seven sevens), dig it up. Filter out the dregs using hemp cloth and store in a porcelain bottle. When applying with a brush, cover your fingers with fish bladders to prevent staining your fingers white.
Another Formula:
Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis, roasted until black, wrapped in green cotton cloth, trodden into cakes by the heel, three qian), Hong Tong Mo (Red Copper Powder, calcined to ash in a silver pot, six fen, approx. 2.2 grams), Bai Fan (Alumen, dried), He Zi Pi (Pericarpium Terminaliae Chebulae), Sha (Borax), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma). Each three fen (approx. 1.1 grams). Grind each into fine powder and mix thoroughly. Then, take one Pomegranate Peel (Shi Liu Pi), three Dark Plums (Wu Mei), and a pinch of Fine Tea (Xi Cha). Add two zhan (approx. 400 ml) of water, decoct until reduced to seventy percent volume, filter out the dregs, and keep in a porcelain cup. Place the previously prepared powders into this liquid, heat over a double boiler until the surface wrinkles, then remove. In the evening, use a soft brush to apply the mixture. Wash face with warm water the next morning; hair and beard will become black as lacquer.
