Treats Qi deficiency and Yang weakness, incessant spontaneous sweating due to deficiency, and limb fatigue.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, boiled, peeled, and navel removed) in equal parts. Take four qian per dose, decocted in water, taken before retiring.
Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix, three qian), Zhifuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix, one qian). Decoct in water and take.
Treats spontaneous sweating caused by Qi and Blood deficiency.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex, each 1.5 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, three qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one qian), Wei Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum, five slices), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, two pieces). Decoct in water until one zhong remains, add one large spoonful of thick maltose syrup, boil once more, and take.
Treats night sweats with fever; this is the sacred remedy for excess fire and Yin deficiency.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex). Decoct in water and take.
Night sweat refers to sweating during sleep, as if by a thief. When Yin is deficient, during sleep, the defensive Yang that protects the exterior falls into the interior due to emptiness. The fluids at the surface lose their securing function, resulting in profuse sweating. Upon waking, Yang becomes active, and defensive Qi returns to the exterior, so the sweating stops. Danggui and Dihuang are herbs that nourish Yin; Huangqin, Huanglian, and Huangbai are herbs that descend fire. After night sweats, the couli (pores) are not secure, hence Huangqi is used to tonify the exterior. However, since it is stated as Yin deficiency, does Yuan Qi only descend and not ascend? If the austere/descending qi is already deep, using further austere/descending agents would violate the prohibition against "making deficiency more deficient." Only those with high fire and strong constitution may use this temporarily out of necessity; otherwise, cold-cooling herbs damage the Stomach, causing deeper harm.
Zhang Jingyue observed cases of insufficient Yin, internal steaming heat, and leakage of body fluids as sweat, and prescribed this formula.
Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 7-8 qian), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 1.5 qian), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus, 2 qian), Fuling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 2.4 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, salt-fried, 1 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 qian), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.8 fen), Digupi (Lycii Cortex, 1 qian), Sheng Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, raw, 1.2 qian). Add Dengxincao (Junci Medulla) and Lianzi (Nelumbinis Semen), decoct in water, and take warm before meals. For extreme deficiency, administer with Chongshen Tang.
Zhang Jingyue observed cases where Yang deficiency failed to consolidate sweat, and made this formula the primary treatment.
Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix, 2-3 qian), Zhi Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried, 1 qian), Chao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried, 3-4 qian), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.8 fen). Decoct in water and take before meals. For extreme deficiency, add Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix, 0.8 fen) and Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 0.6 fen).
Zhang Jingyue observed cases of insufficient Heart Qi and Spleen Qi, leading to leakage of body fluids as sweat, and treated them primarily with Guipi Tang (Spleen-Restoring Decoction) minus Xiangru (Costi Rhizoma) plus Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus). The above three methods all address the root cause; they do not merely stop sweating but allow sweating to cease naturally, which is called "treating by not treating."
Zhu Danxi used two mulberry leaves, baked dry, powdered, and taken on an empty stomach mixed with rice water, which stops night sweats.
Tuanshen Tang

Another prescription
Treats sweating at the heart region. Use Renshen (Panacis Ginseng Radix) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), each two liang, and one pig heart. Cut open the heart while retaining blood, sew the Renshen and Danggui into the incision, cook thoroughly, remove the herbs, and eat the meat.
