Zusanli (ST36) is located three cun below the knee, in the depression between the two tendons. It can relieve heart and abdominal pain, effectively treating cold in the stomach, borborygmus, abdominal fullness and accumulation, and pain of the leg tendons; it is also indicated for emaciation and weakness due to Cold Damage (Shanghan), Qi Gu disease (a condition characterized by abdominal distension like a drum), and various other conditions.
For individuals over thirty years old experiencing heavy eyes and blurred vision, needling this acupoint while lifting the leg makes treatment not difficult.
Neiting (ST44) is located on the medial side of the second toe, belonging to the Yangming channel of the Stomach meridian at the dorsum pedis. It effectively treats cold limbs, where the patient prefers quietness and dislikes noise, accompanied by tinnitus, sore throat, frequent yawning, and toothache. For malaria and loss of appetite, symptoms are relieved immediately after needling.
Quchi (LI11) is found in the depression at the lateral end of the transverse cubital crease when the elbow is flexed. It treats elbow pain, hemiplegia (Pian Feng), severe throat obstruction with a sensation of suffocation, persistent fever, and generalized pruritus due to wind. The condition resolves after manipulating the needle.
Hegu (LI4) is located in the web between the thumb and index finger, at the midpoint of the second metacarpal bone on the radial side. It treats headache, facial swelling, alternating chills and fever in malaria, fever with sweating, dim vision, toothache, epistaxis, and trismus making speech difficult. By observing the depth of insertion, the illness is naturally alleviated.
Weizhong (BL40) is located at the midpoint of the popliteal crease, directly over the artery. It treats heaviness in the lower back preventing movement, heavy legs, wind affecting the spine, epilepsy, muscle spasms, unbearable heat diseases, and stiffness making knee extension difficult. Effectiveness is seen immediately upon needling.
Chengshan (BL57) is located in the depression between the two bellies of the gastrocnemius muscle (resembling a fish belly). It effectively manages lower back pain, hemorrhoids, difficulty in defecation, foot qi (Hong Kong jiao), swelling under the feet, extreme cold and soreness in both feet, chaotic turning during malaria attacks, and acute muscle spasms. Needling this point provides relief.
Taichong (LR3) is located two cun posterior to the first metatarsophalangeal joint, where the arterial pulse can be felt, indicating prognosis. It treats convulsive disorders due to wind, sore throat, chest and abdominal distension, inability to walk, hernias with unilateral scrotal swelling, and blurred vision as if covered by clouds. It also treats lower back pain, demonstrating miraculous efficacy upon needling.
Kunlun (BL60) is located behind the lateral malleolus, where the slight pulse can be found anterior to the Achilles tendon. It treats heaviness in the arms, pain in the waist and spine, pain connecting the lateral and medial malleoli, headache, stiffness of the neck and back, sudden asthma with chest fullness, mental restlessness, and difficulty walking. This point must be sought for treatment.
Huantiao (GB30) is located on the lateral aspect of the thigh. The patient should lie on their side, extend the lower leg, and flex the upper leg to locate the point. It treats hemiplegia, coldness of the trunk, wind-cold bi-syndrome, body stiffness resembling being bound by ropes, heavy legs, severe asthma and pain. This point is most effective.
Yanglingquan (GB34) is located one cun below the lateral aspect of the knee in the depression. It treats knee swelling and numbness, difficulty in sitting and standing, heaviness in the waist and back, facial swelling, fullness in the chest and hypochondrium, cold bi-syndrome, and hemiplegia. Patients may struggle to sit or rise, lying down resembling an elderly person. After inserting the needle five fen deep, the miraculous effect is indeed distinct.
Tongli (HT5) is located one cun posterior to the wrist, between the styloid process of the ulna and the tendon of the palmaris longus. It treats aphasia (inability to speak despite wanting to), mental restlessness, and palpitations. In excess patterns, it presents with heaviness in the four limbs, redness of the head, cheeks, and face, and frequent yawping with shortness of breath and throat obstruction. In deficiency patterns, it presents with anorexia, sudden loss of voice, and pale complexion. Gently needling with a golden needle reveals its miraculous power.
Lieque (LU7) is located above the wrist on the radial side. To locate it, cross the hands; the point is at the tip of the index finger where the artery beats. It specifically treats hemicephalic pain (one-sided headache), hemiplegia with numbness in the elbow and hand, frequent phlegm obstruction, trismus, and toothache. Understanding this principle ensures immediate efficacy upon needling.
