Treat patients under forty years of age with strong constitutions who frequently suffer from hot carbuncles (heat-toxin abscesses) of uncertain location, accompanied by obstruction of both large and small bowels. Use Da Huang Tang (Rhubarb Decoction).
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 50 pieces), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 2 liang), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 liang), Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas, 1 liang, with an additional 2 liang reserved).
The above five herbs are chopped. Boil in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2.4 sheng. Strain the dregs, add Xiao Jiao (likely a typo for Xiao Shi or a specific adjuvant; interpreted here as adding the specified substance for harmonization), and mix. Divide into three warm doses. Stop when brisk bowel movement is achieved.
Treat carbuncles and ulcers on the back with solid accumulation, obstruction of both bowels, alternating chills and fever. If Wu Li Tang has already been taken but vomiting prevents further intake, causing extreme thirst and mental restlessness, use Dan Zhu Ye Tang (Lophatherum Decoction).
Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Folium, chopped, 4 sheng, tips removed), Gua Lou (Trichosanthis Fructus, 4 liang), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria, 2 liang each), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, roasted, 2 liang), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, powdered, 2 liang), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, 10 liang), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 liang), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, 3 liang), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1.5 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang).

Divide into four doses. After three days and nights, if one brisk bowel movement occurs, stop taking the medicine; do not finish the decoction. If the decoction is finished without bowel movement, induce evacuation.
