All herbs are roasted until scorched. Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati (Dahuang), Radix Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) each weigh one liang; Radix Ginseng (Renshen) and Caulis Akebiae (Mutong) each weigh five qian; Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Radix Astragali Membranacei (Huangqi), Radix Polygalae (Yuanzhi), and Fructus Oryzae Sativae (Mendong) each weigh three fen. Grind into fine powder, make pills with honey the size of small beans. Take five pills per dose, swallowed with rice water on an empty stomach; long-term use will yield efficacy. Delayed dentition is due to insufficient congenital constitution, resulting in marrow failing to fill the bones. Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) or Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction) added with Radix Anemarrhenae (Zhimu) and Cortex Phellodendri (Huangbo) is suitable. Externally, Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Radix Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao), Rhizoma Dioscoreae (Shanyao), Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum (Chenxiang), and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) in equal parts are ground into powder, sprinkled on the gums, while simultaneously taking the internal medicine mixed with plain boiled water. Single prescription: Twenty grains of male rat feces. Use one grain daily to rub the gums; teeth should erupt by the twenty-first day. Delayed hair growth is caused by blood and qi failing to ascend and nourish. Congrong Wan (Cistanche Pill): Radix Cistanches (Congrong), Radix Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao), and Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shudi) in equal parts, with Pulvis Plumbi Subacetatis (Hufen) halved in amount. Grind into powder, make pills with honey the size of millet seeds. Take ten pills per dose, swallowed with decoction of black soybeans. Also grind and apply the liquid to the scalp. All the above conditions result from insufficient congenital endowment or occur after vomiting and diarrhea, and can be treated by tonifying the Spleen and Stomach. If mismanaged, they will inevitably develop into Wugu disease (a severe chronic wasting disease in children).
Wu Ying (Five Hardnesses) and rigidity originally belong to Wind patterns; if accompanied by abdominal hardness and accumulation, medical treatment is required.
Wu Ying refers to rigidity and coldness of the head, neck, and four limbs, which is due to the Liver receiving Wind pathogenic factors. Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Continuation of Life Decoction) or Wuyao Shunqi San (Aucklandia Regulating Qi Powder) are indicated. Abdominal distension with bone pain and discomfort is treated with Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder) added with Radix Linderae (Wuyao) and Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan); healing occurs when the accumulation dissipates and Qi harmonizes. If both the heart and abdomen are hard and the face is cyanotic, it is a death sign.
Danshen Du (Erysipelas) (Attached: Fetal Sores)
Danshen Du wanders throughout the body; its etiology is damp-heat forcing the Heart君主 (Heart Monarch).
There are various names for Danshen Du, all caused by the mother consuming the Five Pungent Spices (Wuxin) or drying urine-soaked garments and putting them on the infant while hot or not fully dry. This leads to damp-heat invasion, sudden flourishing of Heart Fire, causing toxic pathogens to contend with blood while Wind exploits the deficiency, resulting in redness, swelling, wandering nature, and unpredictability over the whole body. Initially appearing on the hands and feet, or head, face, chest, and back, it causes irritability, abdominal distension, fever like fire, and unbearable pain; if it enters the lower abdomen and the scrotum becomes discolored like a bruise, it is a death sign.
Remove toxins and cool the muscles by examining the site of onset.
Treatment method: First, use acupuncture and cupping/bloodletting to remove blood stasis. Externally apply toxin-removing and muscle-cooling medicines. For onset at the top of the head, apply natural juice of Scallion Stem (Congbai). For redness, swelling, and pain at the top of the head, use Semen Phaseoli Vulgaris Rubri (Chixiaodou) ground into powder, mixed with egg white for application. For facial redness and swelling, use Caosin (Furnace Hearth Soil) powder mixed with egg white. For onset on the back, use Cortex Mori Radicis (Sangbaipi) powder mixed with sheep fat. For redness and swelling on both shoulders/back, burn yellow willow wood to ash, mix with water for application. For flaccid swelling on both hypochondria, use Ferrum Limatura (Shengtiecuo) powder mixed with pig manure water. For swelling originating above the navel, use Fructus Arecae (Binglang) powder mixed with rice vinegar. For redness and swelling on both feet, use Resina Mastichae (Ruxiang) powder mixed with sheep fat. For red and white spots on both feet, use soil from under the pig trough ground into powder, mixed with clear oil. For onset on the genitals, use soil from the place where roof leaks drip, ground into powder, mixed with sheep fat. Qian Yi's universal formula uses Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao) and Cinnabar (Tuzhu) ground into powder, along with Folium Isatidis (Lanye), Herba Lemnae (Fuping), and aquatic moss, ground together, juice squeezed out for mixing and application. Alternatively, use one liang of Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao) and five qian of Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati (Dahuang) ground into powder, mixed with fresh well water, applied frequently. Any transformation of Danshen Du is serious; if untreated for three days and the toxin attacks the Zang-Fu organs, death ensues.
If toxins enter the interior and are resolved internally, life can be saved.
When toxic vapors enter the interior, abdominal distension indicates death; Hongneixiao San (Red Interior Dissolving Powder) saves them: Hongneixiao, Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), slices of Solanum Melongena (Qiepian) or calyces (Qidi), Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao), Radix Notopterygii (Qianghuo), and Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin) each five qian, Moschus (Shexiang) five fen. Grind into powder. Take two qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Radix Rehmanniae Recens (Shengdihuang). Universal formulas include Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Toxin-Dissolving Pill), Xijiao Xiaodu Yin (Rhino Horn Detoxification Drink), Sishun Qingliang Yin (Four Smooth Cooling Drink), Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Expelling Toxin Powder) added with Radix Lithospermi (Zicao), or Shengma Gegen Tang (Cimicifuga and Kudzu Root Decoction) added with Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu), Poria (Fuling), Radix Aucklandiae (Muxiang), and Fructus Aurantii (Zhike). Generally, the principle is to clear Heart Fire and eliminate damp-heat, preventing the toxin from sinking. For cases where cooling medicines cannot be taken, Xingxing San (Awakening Powder) is excellent.
Fetal sores must first have their toxins transformed, then brushed with the father's urine as if divine.
For infants aged one to two years with sores all over the body, first administer Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Toxin-Dissolving Pill) or Xijiao Xiaodu Yin (Rhino Horn Detoxification Drink). Externally, brush with the father's urine using a goose feather. For damp types, sprinkle dry Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) powder. Refer to the general section on Danshen Du for further reference.
