For the treatment of wind-stroke where pathogenic factors have entered the Zang organs, with extreme heat intensity, closure and constipation, obstruction in urination and defecation, this is a case of hot-wind caused by the struggle between wind and fire.
This formula is the primary treatment. If there is cold qi inside the body, and the stool is conversely hard, it is named Yin-Jie (Yin Constipation). For those with Yin-Jie, upon receiving harmonious qi and sunlight, the ice-like condition will naturally melt; one must not mistakenly use purgative drugs. A mistake here leads to irrecoverable conditions, so be extremely cautious.
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (stir-fried with ginger juice) Rhubarb (steamed with wine) Immature Bitter Orange (stir-fried with flour) Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (each 1.5 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
(See section on Cold Stroke)
For the treatment of cold-wind invading the Zang organs, where extreme cold predominates and collapse syndrome (Tuo Zheng) appears subsequently, this is a case of cold-wind caused by the encounter of wind and water-dampness.
Taking this medicine urgently can still save life. Since the disease belongs to collapse syndrome, if one mistakenly uses drugs for dredging collaterals and opening orifices, it is like adding stones to someone who has already fallen into a well. One must administer large doses of Ginseng and Aconite to comply with the legal treatment method.
For the treatment of cold-wind invading the Zang organs, with six pulses being deep and fine, phlegm obstructing the throat causing roaring sounds, and loss of consciousness, this is a sign of cold-phlegm Jue-ni (reversal cold).
Arisaema Cum Bile (raw) Aconitum Carmichaelii Radix Preparata (raw, skin and tip removed) Aconitum Carmichaelii Radix Preparata (raw) Fresh Ginger (five slices) Costus Root (raw) (0.5 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
Xue Lizhai said: Sansheng Yin (Three Raw Decoction) is a good medicine for circulating meridians and treating cold-phlegm, a divine agent that breaks through barriers and captures flags. Each dose must include about one liang of Ginseng to control its movement, thereby driving out external pathogens and supplementing true Qi. Otherwise, it brings no benefit but instead leads to defeat. Observing the ancients' use of formulas such as Fuzi Tang, Baizhu Fuzi Tang, and Shenfu Tang reveals their meaning.
For the treatment of wind striking the meridians and collaterals, presenting with deviation of the mouth and eyes, hemiplegia, or speech impediment, this is due to blood deficiency failing to nourish the sinews. One should use agents that nourish blood and disperse wind. The Classic says: "To treat wind, first treat the blood; when blood flows, wind extinguishes itself."
Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (1.5 qian) Licorice Root (roasted) Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome Angelica Sinensis Radix Paeoniae Radix Rubra Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (self-made) Poria Coctus Schizonepetae Spica Saussureae Involucratae Radix et Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizome Saposhnikoviae Radix Angelicae Dahuricae Radix Scutellariae Radix (wine-fried, each 0.8 qian) Asari Radix et Rhizoma (0.2 qian)
Decoct in water and take orally.
If irritability and thirst occur, add Gypsum Fibrosum (1.5 qian); during rainy weather, add Fresh Ginger (three slices); in spring and summer, add Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (0.8 qian).
I believe this formula is suitable for the initial stage. If the illness persists for a long time, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) and Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) should be used as the main base, assisted by wind-dispersing herbs, to achieve complete success.
