Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Wudang, five qian) Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, two qian and five fen)
Decoct in water, take with wine. If the fall or blow injury is severe, add Akebiae Caulis (Qingmuxiang, one qian and five fen) and Leonuri Herba (Yimucao, three qian).
In women, blood without pregnancy becomes menstrual fluid; during pregnancy, it gathers to nourish the fetus, and accumulates to become milk. If menstrual fluid suddenly flows down, it is called "Lou Tai" (threatened abortion with bleeding); if the blood is completely exhausted, the fetus cannot be preserved. The general principle: if caused by wind-heat disturbing the blood, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) taken with Fangfeng Huangqin Wan (Saposhnikovia and Scutellaria Pills). If caused by blood deficiency, use this formula (Foshou San) plus Poria (Fushen), Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao), and Mugwort Leaf (Aiye). If caused by anger stirring up liver fire, use Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If too much blood is lost, use Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction). If ineffective, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction). For all cases of spleen deficiency with sinking qi, failing to control blood within the vessels, Buzhong Yiqi Tang is appropriate. If bleeding occurs despite abundant qi and blood, it is due to the infant drinking less milk; no medicine is necessary.
Siwu Tang (See Xu Lao chapter).
Scutellariae Radix (Tiaoxinqin, fried until charred) Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) (equal parts)
Grind into powder, make pills with wine paste, size of paulownia seeds. Take two qian per dose, swallow with boiled water before meals.
Jiawei Xiaoyao San (See Lei Zhongfeng chapter).
Bazhen Tang (See Xu Lao chapter).
Buzhong Yiqi Tang (See Lei Zhongfeng chapter).
"Zi Xuan" refers to the fetus pressing upward. When fetal qi rebels upward and tightly obstructs the chest and diaphragm, it is called "Zi Xuan". Its symptoms are mostly due to anger injuring the liver, but can also result from improper daily living habits or spleen qi stagnation. It should be treated primarily with Zisu Yin (Perilla Drink) modified. Furthermore, if qi rebellion is extreme, leading to syncope and dizziness, it is called "Zi Xuan" (pregnancy-related vertigo/syncope). Treat both conditions with the aforementioned medicines. However, Zi Xuan caused by spleen deficiency with phlegm-dampness should be treated with Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction). If stubborn phlegm blocks the orifices while spleen qi is not deficient, use Erchen Tang (Two Aged Decoction) plus Bamboo Juice (Zhuli) and Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi). One must deeply distinguish between deficiency and excess patterns.
Treats Zi Xuan, and promotes labor and smooth delivery, with miraculous efficacy.
Angelicae Sinensis Radix Danggui Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma Chuanxiong Perillae Fructus Zisu (each one qian) Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Gancao (roasted) Ginseng Renshen Paeoniae Radix Alba Baishaoyao (wine-fried, each five fen) Arecae Pericarpium Dafupi (decocted with black soybean water)
Add one slice of fresh ginger and one inch of scallion white, decoct in water and take.
For the above symptoms, if caused by anger injuring the liver, add Bupleuri Radix Chaihu. If caused by improper daily living habits, add Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma Baizhu and Amomum Fructus Sharen. If caused by spleen qi stagnation, use Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction). Erchen Tang (Both see Lei Zhongfeng chapter)
