(Chi Kou You Feng [Red Mouth Wandering Wind], E Zhang Feng [Goose Palm Wind], Lan Jiao Feng [Rotting Foot Wind])
Da Ma Feng (Leprosy): The skin swells and protrudes, accompanied by itching and numbness, resembling tree bark exuding sap. This is caused by damp-toxin generating parasites. In severe cases, eyebrows may fall out and the nasal bridge may collapse and disintegrate, rendering the condition incurable. It is advisable to take Qishe Jiu (Qishe Wine) and apply Danggui Gao (Angelica Ointment) externally.
Chi Bai You Feng (Red and White Wandering Wind): Manifests as skin itching with desquamation.
E Zhang Feng (Goose Palm Wind): Characterized by rough, thickened, and peeling skin on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.
Lan Jiao Feng (Rotting Foot Wind): Characterized by dampness and ulceration of the feet.
For all three conditions, one may apply Danggui Gao (Angelica Ointment) externally, take Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) internally, and concurrently use Sheng Shu Di Huang Wan (Raw and Cooked Rehmannia Pill).
[Formula for Qishe Jiu]
Qishe (Agkistrodon, 蕲蛇; Zoushaoshe [Zaocys, 乌梢蛇] may also be used, removing head and tail, one whole snake), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地, 2 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 苦参), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 丹参), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos, 菊花), Yinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 丹皮), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 赤芍), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 当归), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus, 枸杞子), Manjingzi (Viticis Semen, 蔓荆子), Chi Fuling (Polyporus cum Rhus, 赤茯苓), Bixie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 萆薢), Baibu (Stemonae Radix, 百部) (each 1 liang); Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix, 秦艽), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 独活), Lingxian (Spatholobi Caulis, 威灵仙) (each 5 qian); Sangzhi (Mori Ramulus, 桑枝, 1.5 liang).
Decoct these ingredients in 5–6 jin of good raw wine, remove the "fire toxicity" (heatiness) over seven days, and then drink.
[Formula for Danggui Gao]
Indicated for Li Feng (Leprosy), applicable for external application. Also treats You Dan (Wandering Redness) and various wind conditions such as E Zhang.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 当归), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地) (each 1 liang); Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix, 紫草), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 麻黄), Mubiezi (Strychni Semen, 木鳖子, shelled), Dafengzi (Jatrophae Semen, 大风子, shelled), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 防风), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, 黄柏), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 玄参) (each 5 qian); Mayou (Sesame Oil, 麻油, 8 liang), Huangla (Beeswax, 黄蜡, 2 liang).
First, decoct the first nine herbs in the oil until they become charred, then filter out the dregs. Return the oil to the pot and boil until it forms beads when dropped into water. Then add the beeswax, testing that it does not disperse when placed in water. Allow to cool slightly, pour into a lidded bowl, and place in water to remove fire toxicity. Use after three days.
[Care and Topical Treatment for Tiao Pao Chuang / Jie Chuang]
Avoid exposure to cold water if the area has been scalded or burned. If necessary, burn the husks of white sesame seeds until carbonized but retaining their nature, grind into a fine powder, and apply to the affected area. If the lesion is dry, mix with sesame oil for application. Alternatively, use powdered bark of the Platanus tree (Baizi Shupi, 柏子树皮) mixed with sesame oil for application, which is also effective.
Jie Chuang (Scabies): Lesions that are small and non-purulent often belong to Wind-Heat; lesions that are large and purulent often belong to Damp-Heat. Both should be treated with applying Mahuang Gao (Ephedra Ointment). Healing can occur within ten days without leaving scars. It is also advisable to consume large amounts of Yinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 金银花).
There is also Tian Pao Chuang (Heavenly Blister Disease): Manifests as swollen white blisters, ranging from the size of a mung bean to a broad bean, growing in patches. They may appear on the top of the head or around the ears. Apply Huangbai San (Phellodendron Powder) externally for immediate recovery.
