During pregnancy, due to blood deficiency and wind invasion, leading to trismus (lockjaw) and opisthotonos (backward arching of the back), it is called Zi Xian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy). This condition manifests suddenly and urgently. If it is confirmed to be complicated by wind pathogen, Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder) should be used to settle the condition. If accompanied by anger stirring up Liver fire, Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) with added Renshen (Ginseng) may be used as an adjunct. If accompanied by rebellious fetal Qi, Zisu Yin (Perilla Decoction) may be used as an adjunct. If accompanied by Spleen deficiency with phlegm retention, Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentleman Decoction) may be used as an adjunct. If triggered by interior cold, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with added Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) and Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla) should be used. This condition must be cured rapidly for the best outcome; if it occurs frequently without cessation, not only will the fetus be abruptly miscarried, but the Qi and Blood will also dissipate along with the fetus, making it difficult to preserve the mother's life. Generally speaking, for this condition before the fetal Qi has moved downward, the treatment focuses on tonifying Qi, nourishing Blood, and settling Wind; after the fetal Qi has descended, the focus shifts to strongly tonifying Qi and Blood. This is a fixed principle, which I have verified through repeated clinical practice.

Abdominal self-ringing during pregnancy is the sound of the fetus crying inside the womb. It is called Zi Ming (Fetal Cry), also known as abdominal bell ringing. Ancient formulas used 2 qian of soil from a rat's burrow, added with a small amount of Shexiang (Musk), mixed with clear wine and taken orally. Alternatively, strong decoction of Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) sipped slowly can stop the sound. However, since Huanglian is cold in nature and Shexiang opens orifices, they should not be used lightly. This condition is actually a nodule above the umbilicus held in the infant's mouth; when the pregnant woman climbs high and raises her arms, the nodule slips out of the infant's mouth, causing the sound. Instruct the pregnant woman to bend her waist and touch the ground, as if picking up an object; within one or two ke (approx. 30-60 minutes), the nodule re-enters the infant's mouth, and the ringing stops. One to two doses of Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) added with Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) and Fuling (Poria) can be taken to stabilize the fetus.
