(Interior cold with deficiency of Earth [Spleen/Stomach], see Yangming deficiency syndrome) When Shaoyin disease presents with vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, and sudden palpitations accompanied by cold extremities, the root of the pathology lies in true interior cold. Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is most appropriate.
(Interior cold with water flooding, see Taiyang damaged disease) In Shaoyin disease, fluid retention causes heaviness in the four limbs; abdominal pain, sudden palpitations, and uncontrollable diarrhea occur. The state of urination remains uncertain, or it may be complicated by vomiting and coughing, making the condition more severe.
(Interior heat with dampness, see Yangming deficiency syndrome) In Shaoyin disease, diarrhea is linked with coughing, accompanied by vomiting, thirst, irritability, and insomnia. Only Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) can be used; the damp-heat in the abdomen can be completely cured.
(Interior heat with stagnation) Shaoyin disease presenting as Sini syndrome has various manifestations: cough, palpitations, or difficulty in urination; diarrhea sometimes accompanied by a sensation of rectal tenesmus; abdominal pain causing discomfort.
Sini San (Frigid Extremities Powder)
Gancao (Licorice Root) primarily tonifies Qi; Baishao (White Peony Root) disperses wind and clears heat. For internal obstruction, Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange) should be used to attack the blockage. Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) is an excellent herb for opening stagnation; chest congestion relies on diffusion and unblocking.
(Interior cold with diminished Yang) Diarrhea and cold extremities affect the limbs; when there is interior cold with exterior heat and a faint pulse, abdominal pain, flushed face, and dry retching occur. If pain radiates to the throat, the condition becomes critical.
Tongmai Sini Tang (Pulse-Reviving Frigid Extremities Decoction)
To dispel cold, Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) and Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) are used; heavy dosage is required to rescue devastated Yang. Gancao (Licorice Root) tonifying the middle is truly exquisite; refer to the original text for detailed modifications.
Baitong Tang (White Onion Decoction)
(Case attached: Interior cold with absent pulse) A thread-like residual Yang shows a faint pulse; Baitong Tang treats diarrhea and rescues vital energy. Congbai (Scallion White) reaching the exterior is truly miraculous; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Fuzi warming the interior provide guidance.
(Interior cold with no pulse) A faint pulse and diarrhea are worrying conditions. After taking Baitong Tang, if diarrhea persists without cessation, and the patient presents with no pulse, vomiting, irritability, and cold extremities, add Pig Gallbladder Juice (Zhuke Danzhi).
Baitong Jia Zhuke Danzhi Tang (White Onion Decoction plus Pig Gallbladder Juice)
Congbai (Scallion White) reaches the exterior; Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) restores Yang; adding Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) doubles the strength. Using Renao (Human Urine) and Zhuke Danzhi (Pig Gallbladder Juice), health is restored only when the pulse resumes after administration.
(Interior cold with purulent bloody diarrhea) Early in the fifth or fourth day of Shaoyin disease, diarrhea and abdominal pain persist without relief. Obstruction of urination is not surprising; what is startling is the large amount of blood and pus in the stool.
Taohua Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction)
Stopping collapse relies entirely on Chishizhi (Red Kaolin); Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) warming the interior is suitable. Decocting Jingmi (Rice Grain) harmonizes the Stomach; when spring warmth returns and Yang recovers, diarrhea stops.
Huanglian Ejiao Tang (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction)
(Case attached: Interior heat with fluid consumption) Irritability and inability to lie down indicate a non-trivial illness; Baishao (White Peony Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) clear Minister Fire. Further use of Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Gelatin) moistens dry Earth [Spleen]; Jiuhuang (Egg Yolk) stirred in tonifies Spleen essence.
