[Luo Tianyi] Runji Gao (Moisturizing Ointment) is used to treat roughness and dryness of the hands and feet, skin fissures accompanied by pain, and symptoms aggravated by wind exposure.
Formula: Zizhu Qingxi (Mineral Asphalt, 4 liang), Bai Huangla (White Beeswax, 8 qian), Ruxiang (Frankincense, 2 qian).
Place the above three herbs in an iron vessel and decoct using alternating mild and strong heat. First place the asphalt in the pan, then immediately add the beeswax and frankincense, followed by adding one or two spoonfuls of clear sesame oil.
Wait until the asphalt is completely melted, then gently heat and stir. Place a basin of clean cold water nearby. Take one or two drops of the medicinal liquid with the stirring spoon and drip them into the water for testing: if the drops harden, add more oil; if the consistency is appropriate, filter the residue with new cotton cloth, fold and pull the ointment in the water until it turns white. Add oil gradually and sparingly to prevent the ointment from becoming too soft. Store in a porcelain container, or wrap in oil paper. Use as needed without fixed dosage. First, warm the fissures over fire, then press the edges together. Warm the ointment over fire until soft, apply it to the fissures, cover with a small piece of paper, and the fissures will heal naturally.
[Zhu Danxi] Old Man's Roadside Prescription
In an inn at Dushu Shop north of the city, there was a man pushing a handcart. His skin was severely cracked and painful; he could not hold the cart handles with his hands nor walk on the ground, forcing him to sleep on the cart. Applying this medicine provided immediate relief, and he could walk the next day. It has been effective every time since, so it is recorded here.
[Worldly/Popular Prescription] For treating hand and foot fissures that do not heal during spring and summer.
Ingredients: Shengjiang Zhi (Ginger Juice), Hongzao (Red Fermented Rice), Baigan (White Salt), Zhigao (Pork Fat, preferably made in the twelfth lunar month).
Grind the ingredients thoroughly, heat them in a pan, and rub them into the cracks. Although it may cause pain initially, the skin becomes soft and the cracks close after a short while. Repeated use ensures recovery.
[Zhu Danxi] For cold hands and feet with fissures. Take Sanhe (approximately 3-4 he, a unit of volume) of Ta Jiao (Sichuan Pepper), boil and soak for about half a shi (approx. 1-2 hours). Soak again shortly after. Additionally, applying sheep or pork marrow is very effective. (From "Meishi Fang")
[Worldly/Popular Prescription] For treating heel fissures. Take a large handful of hair and one bowl of Tongyou (Vernicia Fordii Oil), decoct in a ceramic vessel. When the oil boils and the hair dissolves, remove from heat and spread to cool. Store in a ceramic vessel, preventing dust entry. Each time, wash the fissures with boiling water to soften them, then apply the ointment for relief. Another method adds Shui Fen (Lead Carbonate).
["Shan"] For foot fissures and rot. Steam lotus root, grind into a paste, and apply.
[Worldly/Popular Prescription] Use Wubeizi (Chinese Gallnut) powder, fill the cracks with Niu Guisui (Bovine Marrow) for improvement. For interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot), take the yellow skin from goose palms, bake until dry, burn to retain properties (charcoal state), grind into powder. Sprinkle on moist lesions.
