[Haizang] When patients with chuangzhen (acute infectious diseases characterized by skin eruptions) do not feel thirsty, it indicates coldness in the zang-fu organs leading to diarrhea. This is primarily treated with Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction, a formula for tonifying qi and strengthening the spleen) combined with Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), with the dosage halved.
For children with douzhen (smallpox/rubella-like eruptions) whose stools are unconsolidated and whose eruptions gradually turn black and sink inward, both the child and their wet nurse should take the medicine simultaneously.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baifuling (Poria), Roudoukou (Nutmeg), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 0.5 liang); Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (2 qian).
The ingredients are chopped. Each dose consists of 1 qian, boiled with half a zhan of water, five slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and two Zao (Jujube fruits), until one-third of the liquid remains. The wet nurse doubles this dose. If severe diarrhea occurs accompanied by cold limbs, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) should be added; its efficacy can be verified.
[Chen Wenzhong] Doukou Wan (Cardamom Pill), treats diarrhea caused by douzhen.
Ingredients: Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), Bailonggu (Fossilized Bones), Hezirou (Pericarpium Arecae Semen), Mianbao Wei Roudoukou (Nutmeg wrapped in flour and roasted) (each 0.5 liang); Chishizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Kubaijian (Calcined Alum) (each 7.5 qian).
These are ground into powder and made into pills the size of millet seeds using paste. Children aged one year take thirty pills; those aged three years take one hundred pills, administered with warm rice water. Discontinue use once diarrhea stops.
[General Medical View] For douchuang (smallpox) vomiting without phlegm, use Yihuang San (Yellow Benefiting Powder); if phlegm is present, use Erchen Tang (Two Aged Ingredients Decoction, a formula for drying dampness and resolving phlegm) or Jupi Banxia Tang (Tangerine Peel and Pinellia Decoction). If vomiting persists, add Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos). If both vomiting and diarrhea occur, Yihuang San, Chen's Muxiang San, or Yigong San (Four Efficacious Agents Powder, a formula for tonifying qi, strengthening the spleen, and regulating qi) are also appropriate. If vomiting is accompanied by fever, irritability, thirst, abdominal fullness, asthma, difficulty in urination and defecation, and red face, diuresis should be promoted. If there is no improvement, Xuanfeng San (Wind-Releasing Powder) should be used to purge. (Full text see "Da Fa" chapter.)

Jizi, aged five, experiences abdominal urgency after smallpox.
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) (each 5 fen); Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each 7 fen); Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (3 fen).
Boil in water and take orally.
[Chen Wenzhong] Muxiang San (Aucklandia Powder), treats abdominal distension, thirst, and diarrhea associated with douchuang. (Formula see entry "Dou Ke Xie".)
If abdominal fullness and asthma are present, along with difficulty in urination and defecation, fever, red face, restlessness, and severe vomiting, diuresis should be promoted. If there is no improvement, Xuanfeng San (Wind-Releasing Powder) should be used to purge. (Full text see "Da Fa" chapter.)
