[Li Dongyuan] For disharmony between the spleen and stomach, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with double the amount of Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), decocted with Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Dazao (Jujubae Fructus). For spleen fatigue, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Sharen (Amomi Fructus), and Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), each half qian, decocted. For deficiency and weakness of the spleen and stomach, especially fatigue after anger, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentermen Decoction) with Chao Banxia Qu (Fried Pinelliae Fermented Powder) and Meishizi (Myrobalani Fructus) in equal parts, ground into powder, with a small amount of Dongguazi (Benincasae Semen) added for decoction.
[From "Bencao"] To treat spleen wind causing fatigue, use Renshen San (Ginseng Powder). Use this when accompanied by slow convulsions.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Dongguaren (Benincasae Semen) (each ban liang), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) (sliced, boiled in jiangshui [fermented water] and Jiangzhi [ginger juice] until retaining its nature, 1 liang).
Grind all into fine powder. Take 1 qian each time, add half zhan of water, decoct to reduce to two or three fen, and take warm.
[Zhang Yuansu] There are three types of thirst:
First, heat accumulates in the heart and spleen, causing irritability and extreme thirst with a desire to drink. It is suitable to drink baitang (plain water or rice soup). This refers to sudden onset not caused by severe vomiting or diarrhea.
Second, due to chronic illness or excessive purgation, leading to spleen deficiency and a desire to drink water to compensate. It is suitable to use Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder). (Formula see Xiaodan chapter.) Haicang (Zhang Yuansu's pseudonym) said: To treat thirst, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) with Gan Ge (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) and Pipaye (Loquat Leaf) (boiled first in jujube soup, then dried by roasting) in equal parts, with a small amount of Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) added, decocted and taken together. This is also a method for treating deficiency-type thirst.
Third, due to damp-heat disease, where heat binds in the bladder, causing difficult urination, extreme thirst with a desire to drink, and presenting both exterior and interior symptoms. Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) should be used as the main treatment.
[Anonymous/Folk Method] For infants born with obstruction of both stool and urine, and abdominal distension nearing death: Urgently have a woman rinse her mouth with warm water, then perform cupping-suction (absorptive suction) on seven areas of the infant: anterior chest, posterior back, below the umbilicus, and palms and soles of hands and feet. Perform suction 3 to 5 times on each area. Rinse mouth before each suction. Continue until the skin turns reddish. The obstruction will naturally resolve shortly; otherwise, there is no hope of life. For such cases, applying this method may offer a chance of survival.
[Tian Shi] Treatment for newborns with constipation: First, insert a hard scallion stalk into the anus. If stool does not pass, subsequently administer Niuhuang San (Calculus Bovis Powder) to deliver Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill). Relief should occur within one shichen (two hours).
Woxuan Wan: Treats infantile difficult and dry defecation, or abdominal distension and confusion caused by astringent medicines, where life is in imminent danger. This pill can be used; bowel movements will naturally become free within a short time.
Ingredients: Badou (Crotonis Fructus) (1.5 qian), Liuhuang (Sulfur), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Gansui (Kansui Radix) (equal parts).
Grind into fine powder, mix with millet rice paste to form pills the size of mung beans. Wash the left hand of male infants or right hand of female infants with pepper soup. Have the child hold the pill, wrap securely with cotton. Observe the number of steps walked. Remove the medicine and wash off when appropriate.
[Qian Yi] Yuliren Wan: Treats infants in swaddling clothes with obstruction of both stool and urine, as well as conditions involving fright-heat, phlegm-stasis, requiring softening and movement.
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang, soaked in wine for half a day, stir-fried dry, ground to fine powder), Yuliren (Pruni Semen) (skin removed, pounded, 2 liang), Huashi (Talcum) (finely ground, 10 liang).
First, pound Yuliren into a paste. Mix with Dahuang and Huashi powder. Form pills the size of millet grains. Children aged two years take 2-3 pills, adjusted according to size. Administer with breast milk or Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction) before meals.
