For acupuncture treatment of tongue retraction (She Juan), specifically select the Luo-connecting point of the Hand-Shaoyang channel and the Xi-Cleft point or related tendon points. The Classic states: When pathogenic factors lodge in the Luo-connecting vessels of the Hand-Shaoyang, it causes throat obstruction (Hou Bi), tongue retraction, dry mouth, vexation, pain along the lateral aspect of the arm, and inability to raise the hand to the head. Puncture at the nail corners of the middle finger and index finger, one cun from the corner, each side. It also states: Diseases of the sinews of the Hand-Yangming channel manifest as pain in the branches, spasms, and tongue retraction. The treatment involves burning needle (Fan Zhen) and rapid puncture (Jie Ci), using the improvement of symptoms as the indicator for stopping, and using painful areas as acupoints.
[Diagnosis] Tongue retraction accompanied by blue lips and testicular retraction indicates certain death. The Classic states: When the Luo-connecting vessels of the Jueyin are severely affected, it leads to tongue retraction and testicular retraction. The Classic further states: The Liver is the convergence of sinews. If the Liver meridian fails to nourish, sinews become tense. Tense sinews pull on the tongue and testes; thus, blue lips, tongue retraction, and testicular retraction indicate that the sinews die first, worsening on Geng days and dying on Xin days.

[Zhang Zhongjing] states: After a major illness has subsided, if there is a tendency to salivate and it persists without resolution, it is due to cold in the upper stomach. It should be treated with pills to warm the interior, preferably Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill). Dongyuan states: Excessive salivation or spitting white foam indicates cold stagnation above the stomach opening. Add Yizhiren (Buckthorn Seed) to the formula. (This type of excessive salivation requires forceful spitting to expel.)
[Lingshu] Tongue laxity with drooling, and vexation/oppression, take Foot-Shaoyin points. (Chapter on Cold-Heat Diseases) The Yellow Emperor asked: What qi causes drooling? Qibo answered: Food and drink enter the stomach. If there is heat in the stomach, parasites move. Parasite movement causes the stomach to relax. Stomach relaxation opens the Lianquan point. Opening of Lianquan causes drooling. Treatment should tonify the Foot-Shaoyin. (Chapter on Mouth Questions)
