[General Principle] When the Lung Qi (Lung Qi) is smooth and regulated, the nasal passages remain peaceful; treatment should only focus on dispersing Wind-Cold (Wind-Cold) affecting the Lung. However, since the nasal cavity is also traversed by the Yangming Meridian (Yangming Meridian), it may provoke conditions of dryness and heat in the clear orifices.
Clear rhinorrhea accompanied by a sensation of nasal obstruction indicates an invasion of Wind-Cold into the Lung Meridian. The modified Xiangsu Decoction (Xiangsu Tang) is appropriate.
Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu, 2 qian), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, 2 qian), Perillae Folium (Zisu, 3 qian), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe, 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 1 qian), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 3 qian), Tubiflorae Flos (Xinyi, 2 qian), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng, 3 qian).
The verse states: Clear rhinorrhea with difficult nasal patency; use Gancao, Xingren, Xiangfu, Chenpi, Zisu, and Bohe together.
Combined with warming-Lung Xinyi and Jiegeng to disperse Cold and unblock the orifices, achieving remarkable efficacy.
(Ber An's Note: Bensen (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, likely referring to Chaihu or similar, contextually ambiguous but kept as Bensen) 8 fen can be added.)
Erythema at the root of the nose and dryness with black crusts inside the nostrils indicate Dryness-Qi of the Yangming Meridian. The modified Shengge Decoction (Shengge Tang) is appropriate.
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 1 qian), Puerariae Radix (Gegen, 3 qian), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, ground, 4 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 3 qian), Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi, 3 qian), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 3 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1 qian), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 3 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 1 qian), Trichosanthis Radix (Huafen, 3 qian), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 2 qian), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Yinhua, 2 qian), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao, 2 qian).
The verse states: Erythema at the nasal root belongs to the Yangming Meridian; balance it with Shengma, Gegen, Shigao, Huangqin, Shengdi, and Baishao.
Use Zhike, Xingren, Gancao, and Huafen together; Yinhua, Lianqiao, and Baizhi can clear Fire.
Epistaxis, possibly accompanied by dizziness and thirst, indicates Blood-Dryness in the Yangming Meridian. The modified Ganlu Yin (Ganlu Yin) is appropriate.
Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi, 3 qian), Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudi, 3 qian), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 3 qian), Ophiopogonis Tuber (Maidong, 3 qian), Asparagi Tuber (Tian dong, 3 qian), Capillaris Herba (Yinchen), Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 3 qian), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike, 1 qian), Imperatae Rhizoma (Maogen, 2 qian), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao, 2 qian), Nelumbinis Plumula (Oujie, 3 qian), Polygoni Multiflori Caulis (Puhuang, 1 qian), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Yinhua, 1 qian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 1 qian).
The verse states: Epistaxis due to Dryness-Heat causes prolonged bleeding; Shengdi, Shudi, Maidong, Tian dong, Huangqin, and Chishao are excellent.
Shihu, Yinchen, Puhuang, and Zhike work together; Yinhua, Maogen, Oujie, and Gancao uniformly collect and stop bleeding.
(Ber An's Note: First, soak fresh cotton wool in concentrated Beijing ink juice or fresh Shengdi and insert it into the nostril; additionally, apply a towel soaked in cold water to the forehead to temporarily stop bleeding, then take the medicine.)
Sores in the nasal cavity, whether presenting with swelling, pain, or itching, indicate Phlegm-Fire in the Liver and Lung meridians. The Sanbai Zhu Bi Dan (Sanbai Nasal Injection Powder) is appropriate (internally, the modified Shengge Decoction can be taken, see previous sections).
Alumen (Bai fan, 1 qian), Natrii Sulfas (Huoxiao, 1 qian), Borax (Pengsha, 1 qian).
The verse states: Frequent pain and itching from sores in the nose; follow the method of injecting Xiao and Fan into the nose.
There is no better strategy than clearing Phlegm and eliminating Fire; add Pengsha and grind evenly.
