[Ba Kuo Location Song]
The pupil belongs to the Water Ba Kuo (Eight Palaces); the black cornea belongs to the Wind Ba Kuo. The Tian Ba Kuo corresponds to the white sclera, sharing the same location. The inner canthus belongs to the Fire and Thunder Ba Kuo; the outer canthus belongs to the Mountain and Lake Ba Kuo. The upper and lower eyelids belong to the Earth and Palace Ba Kuo.
[Note]
[1] The so-called "Ba Kuo" (Eight Palaces) refers to the Water, Wind, Heaven, Fire, Thunder, Mountain, Lake, and Earth Ba Kuo.
[2] The term "Kuo" implies a meaning similar to city walls or ramparts for defense.
[3] The pupil belongs to the Kan Water Ba Kuo. The black cornea belongs to the Xun Wind Ba Kuo. The white sclera belongs to the Qian Heaven Ba Kuo. The inner canthus (major canthus) belongs to the Li Fire and Zhen Thunder Ba Kuo. The outer canthus (minor canthus) belongs to the Gen Mountain and Dui Lake Ba Kuo. The upper and lower eyelids belong to Kun, which is the Earth Ba Kuo.

[Song on Retrograde Menstruation in Women]
In women with retrograde menstruation, blood floods the pupil, making the eyes appear red like cinnabar, accompanied by the growth of pterygium. This is generally due to blood heat causing menstrual obstruction and retrograde flow. Treatment requires Tongjing San (Unblocking Menses Powder) combined with red-colored herbs such as Suxmu (Sappan Wood) and Dahuang (Rhubarb). The formula includes Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Bohe (Mint), Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Zeicao (Euphrasia Herb), and Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome).
[Formula: Tongjing San (Unblocking Menses Powder)]
Suxmu (Sappan Wood) 1 liang, Dahuang (Rhubarb) 5 qian, Honghua (Safflower) 1 liang, Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) 2 liang, Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Bohe (Mint), Hei Zhizi (Black Gardenia Fruit), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Chishao (Red Peony Root), Muzei (Euphrasia Herb), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), each 1 liang.
Grind the above ingredients into a coarse powder and mix evenly. Take 5 qian per dose. Add one and a half zhan of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths. Strain and take warm after meals.
[Note]
[1] The syndrome of retrograde menstruation in women involves blood rebelling and flowing upward, flooding the pupil, resulting in redness and dryness throughout the eye, or the formation of pterygium. This is fundamentally caused by blood heat obstructing the menses, leading to upward rebellion.
[2) It is appropriate to use Tongjing San (Unblocking Menses Powder) to break blood stasis and unblock the menses, after which the blood nebula will naturally recede.
