痘中杂证
For asthma caused by wind-cold invading the Lung, Xing Su Yin (Apricot and Perilla Decoction) should be used first; for asthma caused by phlegm-heat accumulation, Liang Ge Bai Hu Tang (Cool the Diaphragm and White Tiger Decoction) is indicated. For asthma with a weak voice following diarrhea, Ren Shen Bai Zhu San (Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) is prescribed; for asthma accompanied by inverted pustules in smallpox, Shen Gui Lu Rong Tang (Ginseng, Angelica, and Deer Antler Decoction) cures it.
[Note]
The Qi of the Five Zang Organs is governed by the Lung. If disturbed by pathogenic factors, Lung Qi becomes obstructed, and the airway is not smooth, thus leading to asthma.
In excess patterns, the breathing sound is coarse, forceful, and long; in deficiency patterns, the breathing sound is weak, powerless, and short.
At the initial fever stage of smallpox, or after the eruption has occurred, if frequent sneezing or clear nasal discharge occurs,
this is asthma due to wind-cold lodging in the Lung, treated primarily with Xing Su Yin.
If food stagnation, heat, and phlegm accumulate and rush upward causing asthma, this indicates Fire insulting Metal (the Lung); Liang Ge Bai Hu Tang is suitable for treatment.
After diarrhea, when Yuan Qi sinks downward, this is asthma due to Spleen Qi deficiency, treated primarily with Ren Shen Bai Zhu San.
In cases where smallpox pus fills up to half the feet, followed suddenly by inverted pustules and asthma, this indicates severe depletion of Middle Qi; Shen Gui Lu Rong Tang is the primary prescription.
