Passage: Cloud-like nebulae (Yunyi) develop after an illness; prolonged redness and ulceration cause the nebula to obscure the pupil. If the nebula is not yellow or red, vision remains possible. The treatment involves Yanggan Wan (Sheep Liver Pill), which contains Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Chuanxiong Rhizome, Shijueming (Concha Arcae), Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Chushizi (Broussonetiae Fructus), Huaijiao (Sophorae Tonkinensis Fruit), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Ruiren (Pruni Semen).
Formula: Yanggan Wan (Sheep Liver Pill) Formula
One male sheep liver, Baijili (Tribuli Fructus) one tael (stir-fried, thorns removed), Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower) one tael (stalks and leaves removed), Chuanxiong Rhizome three qian, Shijueming (Concha Arcae) one tael, Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) one tael, Chushizi (Broussonetiae Fructus) five qian, Huaijiao (Sophorae Tonkinensis Fruit) five qian (stir-fried), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) five qian, Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) five qian, Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica) two qian and five fen, Danggui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix tail) five qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) five qian, Ruren (Pruni Semen) seven qian (shelled and oil removed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) two qian.
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Take one male sheep liver, blanch in boiling water, mix with the medicinal powder, and pound into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50-60 pills per dose, on an empty stomach, washed down with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction).
Annotation [1]: Nebulae developing after other illnesses are referred to as post-illness nebulae.
Annotation [2]: Initially presenting as redness and ulceration, prolonged duration leads to the gradual formation of cloud-like nebulae that obscure the pupil, resulting in loss of vision. The physician should carefully examine the center of the nebula. If it is not yellow or red, and light can still penetrate (tong sangguang), the condition is treatable. Regular consumption of Yanggan Wan (Sheep Liver Pill) will lead to recovery.
Passage: Blood flooding the pupil causes eye pain, resembling blood infusion with similar coloration. This results from the depletion of bile and liver blood due to heat, where blood is forced by fire into the eyeball and pupil. Urgently apply Zhitong Moyao San (Pain-Relieving Myrrh Powder), containing Xiaosha (Natrii Sulfas), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), and Xuejie (Sanguis Draconis), guided by Cha Qing (Tea Infusion). Once pain subsides, use Dahuang Danggui San (Rhubarb and Angelica Powder), containing Muzei (Equiseti Herba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Sumu (Lignum Santali Rubrum), and Honghua (Carthami Flos).
